    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Role of Nurse Technicians

     

    Provides direct patient care under direct supervision of RN/LPN in a competent, personalized and compassionate manner. Successfully demonstrates proficiency of basic skills, equipment, and procedures (see ‘detailed responsibilities’ below), including unit specific competencies.

    • IVs: Remove as delegated by RN/LPN
    • Urinary Catheter: Maintenance, Discontinuation, Post Procedure Care
    • Gastric Tubes: Maintenance and removal - as delegated by RN/LPN
    • Assist RN/LPN with complex dressing changes, independently perform basic dressing changes as delegated by RN/LPN
    • Hygiene and Skin Care: Implements and participates in methods to prevent skin breakdown, checks for reddened areas or skin breakdown and reports abnormal findings to the RN/LPN
    • Maintains certification in glucose meter access, checks patient’s blood glucose levels as delegated by RN/LPN and notifies RN/LPN of result
    • Promptly corrects and/or reports unsafe conditions to the RN or LPN

     

     Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:

     

    • Currently attending a State Board Certified Nursing Program
    • Completion of first clinical semester of a State Board Certified Nursing Program
    • BLS certification
    • CNA licensure preferred
