Responsibilities and Qualifications

Provide exceptional personalized customer service as a lead representative for Mercy Virtual Credentialing and Licensing. Utilizes strong written and verbal communication skills to properly handle customer inquiries and finding solutions. Establishes a streamlined process for granting provider privileges at Mercy Virtual and telemedicine privileges at all Virtual facilities, internal and commercial. Ensures Mercy Virtual Credentialing policies meet state regulations and accreditation standards. Supervises Mercy Virtual licensing and credentialing staff.  

Ensures licensing and credentialing timelines are met. Maintains communication with project managers and leadership on status’ and reporting any concerns or setbacks to the projected timelines. Performs all duties in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.



  1. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Ability to exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy.
  3. Bi-annually reviews and maintains Virtual Credentialing policies and procedures.
  4. Ensures annual evaluations are completed for all direct reports in a confidential and fair manner.
  5. Participates in Mercy leadership development.


  1. Maintains knowledge of the credentialing database and ensures data is entered correctly by routine audits.
  2. Demonstrates strong commitment to stakeholder relationships by taking ownership of issues and facilitating effective outcomes in a timely manner.


  1. Promotes and maintains confidentiality of practitioner files and all Credentialing and Licensing information.
  2. Carries out job duties in a professional and positive manner; recognizes the importance of excellent customer service and demonstrates this on a daily basis.
  3. Demonstrates a seasoned working knowledge of health care and credentialing industry, including medical legal issues and laws, regulatory agencies and other state and federal standards, specifically regarding telehealth.
  4. Understands facility specific Medical Staff Bylaws and credentialing/privileges requirements.
  5. Performs credentialing duties as required including: Affiliation and Work History verification, requests for information from other facilities and contracted groups, manintenance of expirables (LEMM), NPDB, PDS maintenance, maintain data in Cactus datebase, manages electronic and paper files.
  6. Build and analyze reporting to ensure operational benchmarking for licensing and credentialing.
  7. Leads team by demonstrating an open attitude toward change and participates in the change process.
  8. Coordinates delegated credentialing process to ensure compliance with The Joint Commission and CMS Regulations
  9. Provide training to Board members, leadership, and other co-workers as needed
  10. Maintains process for telemedicine privilege requests for physicians at Mercy facilities and commercial clients, including maintaining data in CACTUS credentialing software, running appropriate verification queries, and sending documentation to facility contacts while ensuring a timely process for approvals.
  11. Maintains privileges for commercial clients by sending reappointment documentation annually for providers
  12. Coordinates a policy and procedure for Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), ensuring that data is collected at least two times per year, and Adverse Events and Complaints from facilities are documented and included in evaluations.
  13. Provides audits on all state licensure applications for timely completion
  14. Participates in hiring and develops orientation for new licensing and credentialing staff.
  15. Continuously streamlines workflow process for both licensing and credentialing analysts.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Required) Previous experience may be substituted for education.

Experience: Previous hospital credentialing & privileging experience and customer service experience required. Knowledge of The Joint Commission accreditation standards, AAAHC accreditation standards, CMS hospital standards and states hospital regulations where Mercy provides patient care services.   

Certification: Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) is preferred.

Working Conditions. Position requires long hours sitting at a computer. Position requires flexible hours outside of the normal work day.
