Responsibilities and Qualifications

Attempts to provide a positive hospital experience in which patients are given opportunities for growth, learning, and mastering the environment through music therapy. Music therapy uses music to address physical, psychological, cognitive, social, and communicative functioning for patients of all ages and abilities. Music Therapists facilitate music interventions both instrumental and vocal, designed to address non-musical goals to promote changes such as stress level, pain management, and mood. Music Therapists design and utilize individulaized music experiences to assess, treat, evaluate, and document on patients. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.


Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:




  • Education: Bachelors degree and internship in Music Therapy.
  • Experience: One year experience working in a pediatric health care setting.
  • Certification/Registration: Certification or registration through appropriate certification/registering body required: RMT - Registration for Music Therapists
  • Must know CPR and be able to respond to emergency situations.
  • Other skills & knowledge: Knowledge of developmental stages of children age 0-teen. Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
