Responsibilities and Qualifications

Provide a safe and secure environment for the patients, visitors, and staff. Officers work 10 1/2 hour shifts that are placed on a variable schedule.


Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Makes continuous and thorough patrols of the hospital facility, garages and its lots.
  • Completes accurate reports in a timely manner and includes all relevant information and follow up.
  • Answers calls in an appropriate and timely manner. Responds to calls in assigned area or assist other officers as needed.
  • Accurately documents and transports patient valuables and lost and found items.
  • Operates cameras and reviews footage when appropriate.
  • Deescalates potentially violent situations whenever possible. Uses only authorized control techniques when reasonable.
  • Locks or unlocks doors on schedule or as requested.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the officer in charge.


Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:


  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Class E driver's license required within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Must be in excellent physical condition, comfortable with various work-related tools, and able to complete the required training.
  • Prefer prior military, military police, law enforcement, or security
  • Prefer IAHSS Certification and Missouri Law Enforcement POST Certification.
