Organizes and administers nursing service in the assigned specialty area by assisting in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of operations and patient care. Functions in staff role as needed. Assumes managerial duties as delegated by Nursing Manager. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and mercy service standards.
Participates in supervision of (Operating Room, CVOR, and Anesthesia) or (Preassessment testing, PACU, Endoscopy, PreProcedure and Phase Two) functioning by organizing and coordinating daily caseload, assuring minimal delays, and clinically assisting in rooms where needed. Acts as liaison for specialty to all shifts with communication and training assistance. Develops and nurtures effective work relationships and communication style with physicians, staff, students, and other departments. Directs and supervises patient care in specialty according to policy and procedure.
Supports and participates in unit Quality Improvement activities by identifying areas for quality improvement, gathering data and assisting with quality reporting to ensure the goal of excellence in clinical outcomes and customer satisfaction. Assists in setting of department goals and objectives. Acts as liaison between family and surgeon during preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. Performs duties of staff nurse as needed, due to acuity level and department census. Participates in interviewing, selection, and orientation of personnel. Maintains anecdotal records of employee activities and attendance records. Provides for performance evaluations and counselings of designated personnel; recommends promotions, transfers, or discharges. Conducts staff meetings to communicate and share information pertinent to departmental and specialty functioning. Provides time for personnel to attend inservice education programs. Conducts staff meetings and AM huddles to communicate and share information pertinent to depatmental functioning. Prepares agenda dn records minutes for staff meetings. Assists in organizing and scheduling work assignments both on a daily and monthly basis.
Provides and controls materials needed for specialty using all available resources. Assures other specialty staff members are able to assist with these duties.Maintains adequate inventory, orders various supplies, ensures proper maintenance of overal physical environment and equipment.
Maintains knowledge of special procedures. Maintains knowledge of equipment, including its care and function, instrumentation, etc. in conjunction with Instrument Room personnel.
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in planning and utilization of resources. Responsible for meetiing operational budget on a monthly basis.
Maintains regulatory requirements of Joint Commision, CMS and other governing agencies. Assures all policies are compliant with regulatory standards and are consistent with actual practice. Assures that all required documentation is accurately maintained including, immediate use sterilization logs, temp/humidity checks, BCA weekly checks,

Licensure: AND must have either a current RN Temporary Permit/RN license in the State of Missouri.
Experience: At least 5 years of previous experience in a perioperative area
Preferred Certifications: CNOR preferred
