Counselor is primarily responsible for addressing the emotional and mental needs of Casa de Misericordia clients.
Accepts initial referrals for services from shelter staff, health professionals, families and others.while maintaining confidentiality of all information and recognizing the limits of confidentiality.
Assesses the client’s psycho-social needs, including economic.utilizing interviewing skills to complete their psycho-social history
Documents all interventions and prepares statistical reports in a timely manner
Provides supportive and direct counseling, intervention to clients and their families in relation to goal planning ensuring continuum care as needed, understanding and practicing appropriate therapeutic skills in client interactions including congruency,active listening, appropriate confrontation, and immediate crisis intervention, exhibits advanced understanding of human behavior theories and is willing to share this knowledge with co-workers to continually enhance the quality of services provided by the shelter. Services to be provided and coordinated in collaboration with the Children's services Coordinator as needed to include children's house meetings and therapeutic groups.
Confers with members of shelter staff or community agencies, as necessary, to address client concerns while maintaining good working relationships with shelter staff and representatives of community agencies.
Maintains a current case record for each client served that pertains to life goals and actions taken to achieve them. addressing client'sclient's emotional concerns relating to home situations and other external factors: Exercises sound judgement in handling difficult and complex cases.
Participates in professional development programs, departmental studies or projects as assigned, assists in cross-training activities involving the various duties and responsibilities of the shelter and leads and supports special projects as require, as well as, any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Provides presentations regarding Casa de Misericordia, its services and related topics regarding domestic violence; Participates in the community through involvement in local organizations or activities that strive to enhance the quality of life for the community we serve and represents Casa de Misericordia at local and state meetings, conferences, etc.
Education: Masters degree in Counseling Psychology or Social Work with current licensure or currently pursuing license in the state of Texas.
Licensure: Masters degree in Counseling Psychology or Social Work with current licensure or currently pursuing license in the state of Texas.
Experience: One or two years experience in a center for victims of family violence.
Other: -Bilingual in English and Spanish is a must.
- Knowledgeable about developmental issues and cultural sensitivities.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed.
- Ability to work with and preserve confidential information.
- Basic computer skills.
