Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Senior Development Officer works closely with the Foundation’s Regional Vice President to design and execute a comprehensive development strategy for major and planned gift prospects for Mercy Health Foundation.  This position will solicit for hospital programs, capital campaign gifts, and ongoing fundraising efforts. This individual will work with Mercy physicians as part of our grateful patient program. This position performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills.
  • Strategic approach to problem solving.
  • Personable presence, demeanor and the desire to work face-to-face with the external community, including volunteers and donor prospects.
  • Outstanding commitment to customer service.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power-Point and Raiser’s Edge.
  • Strong attention to detail, with an outstanding ability to multi-task.
  • Initiates and has the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Mercy.


  • Preferred: three years of successful major gifts experience with a focus on gifts from individuals.
  • Preferred: demonstrable knowledge of the principles and best practices associated with major gift fund-raising.
  • Preferred: demonstrated success in soliciting major gifts(gifts of $10,000+)
  • Preferred: Experience securing philanthropic support for a hospital or health system. 
  • Preferred: CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive).
