The RN First Assistant practices perioperative nursing and has acquired the knowledge, skills, and judgment through organized instruction and supervised practice to first or second assist the surgeon in the operating room. The intraoperative activities of the RN first assistant must be supervised by a surgeon. All duties and responsibilities are performed in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and mercy service standards.
HOURS: This position will work either 8 hour or 10 hour shifts and will work on call 2 days/week and 1 weekend per month.

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Licensure: Must have either a current RN Temporary Permit/RN license in the State of Missouri.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years intraoperative experience with documentation of proficiency in perioperative nursing practice as a scrub and circulating nurse.
Additional Experience: Must be experienced in Open and Endoscopic Harvesting of the Saphenous Vein and Radial Artery
Certifications: First Assistant Certification required within one year of hire/transfer.
Other: The physical demands described here are the representative of the minimums that must be met by an employee to perform all essential functions of the job. Most physical demands are below, plus:Minimal: lift floor to desk height of < 40 lbs, carrying 12 lb (one hand) and < 32 lb (two hands), push < 32 lb force horizontally and 85 lbs of force vertically, pull < 44 lb force, knee or crouch, crawl, grip and pinch forceOccasional: balanceFrequent: hand coordination and data entry
