Responsibilities and Qualifications

Overview:

 

Serve as Project Manager III within the Mercy Health System (Mercy). Project Manager III is accountable for leading and directing short and long-term projects/programs for Mercy Care Management. The Project Manager III is able to operate independently at all levels of the organization. Project Manager III is accountable for the execution of the project plan, and budget, as well as providing dotted and/or straight-line management to the project team. The Project Manager III will address business and technical problems presented by key project stakeholders, develop risk mitigation strategies, project requirements, estimates, schedules, budgets and resource plans. This position will ensure that C-Level Executive decision-makers have an understanding of project estimates, benefits, sponsor identification, business case, evaluation of alternatives, implementation strategy, risk assessment, change management and other information required to ensure the complete understanding of the program(s) value to the organization. The position is responsible for managing the programs(s), including the dotted line accountability of managing project team members, to be completed on time and on budget according to agreed to acceptance criteria and in line with the organizations strategic initiatives. The Project Manager III must have the skills to participate and negotiate. The Project Manager III is a senior team member providing strategic guidance to their project and peer teams as well as the organization in areas of project management, program management and quality management. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Working independently, the Project Manager III, will manage and coordinate various short and long term projects/programs for Mercy Care Management including gathering requirements, developing scope, facilitate the development of appropriate solutions, plan/schedule meetings, generate financial estimates (as applicable), capacity and demand planning and prioritize the work based on pre-defined criteria.

  • They will also prepare and present both written and oral reports regarding the status of the programs/projects, including in applicable variances, key metrics, clinical and financial analysis. The Project Manager III should possess strong organization and administrative capabilities to support the executive management team in decision making. This position may require significant interaction with, project team members (business, clinical and technical team members), vendors, senior business and technical personnel, finance personnel, C-Level Executives, and multiple functional or support organizations. Dotted line responsibility for program team(s) members’ task assignments.

  • Responsible for adhering to contracts as required by the Project/program(s) as required.

  • Strategic thinker able to look across projects as well as forward in the business cycle to anticipate areas of program impact. Employs experienced risk analytics and risk mitigation strategies, presents alternatives and makes recommendations to Executive Leadership (C-Level) as required.

  • Responsible for maintaining status reports and program/project metrics and appropriately triage and categorize all incoming work. Understand dependencies between project issues, external influences, etc.

  • Plan and adhere to budgets and expenses applicable to implementation and management of programs/projects that Project Manager III oversees. Accurately forecast project/program(s) spend and employs risk mitigation as required.

  • Ensures Operational teams are able to accept and continue execution of solution(s) once the Project/program is closed out.

  • Presents status updates and reports to Executive Leadership (C-Level) and Project Sponsors at regular intervals.

  • Responsible for developing agendas and overseeing the completion of deliverables for coordination and synchronization activities.

  • Build relationships and interact effectively with co-workers and leadership supporting the assigned project(s)/programs. Maintains constant communication and updates on project/program progress and issues. 

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Business, Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

  

Experience: 10+ years experience with managing highly complex Program or related function (planning, scheduling, project coordination). Experience presenting to C-Level executives.

  • Proven ability to plan and execute highly complex programs across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of project management practices, planning, and scheduling principles and techniques.

  • Proven experience delivering project results to an organization.

  • Ability to articulate both high level and detailed aspects of a situation or project.
  • Budget and Expense management skills.
  • Ability to drive contract negotiations.
  • Proficiency in MS Project, Visio, Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.

 

PREFERRED:

Education: Advanced degree highly preferred.

Experience: 10+ years Industry Experience preferred, Healthcare Industry Experience preferred

Certification/Registration: PMP Certification preferred
