Supervises the Respiratory staff to ensure respiratory care is delivered in a safe, quality approach following all policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. Develops staff and encourages staff adherence to hospital policy. Assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the operations, technique and technology to ensure appropriate respiratory care. Provides respiratory care services by direct patient care; monitoring patients’ conditions, working collaboratively with the healthcare team with open communication; serving as a clinical resource for coworkers, patients and visitors. Performs direct patient care in all aspects of respiratory therapy according to physicians' orders. Determines effectiveness of therapy. Provides ventilator support during cardiopulmonary resuscitation and maintains life support equipment in the intensive care units and other designated areas. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and mercy service standards.
Quality & Safety Acumen: Fosters a culture of continuous improvement in quality and safety by employing performance improvement principles to address opportunities for improvement; articulates quality and safety metrics for areas of oversight; abides by and keeps co-workers informed of healthcare regulatory requirements as well as Mercy policies and procedures. Complies with state and federal supervisory laws. Supervises the care of patients, which includes making rounds and monitoring the techniques of coworkers. Supervisors assist staff in the diagnosis and treatment of difficult cases and consults with physicians, nurses, patients, families and other personnel to coordinate services. Administers procedures and responds to emergencies when needed.
Communication: Seeks and listens to understand the total message. Conveys key information that co-workers need to know in both verbal and written formats. Able to engage others in conversations that matter e.g. recognition, development planning, and resolving conflict. Speaks effectively in front of small and large groups with direct reports and other leaders. Assists the Manager/Director of Respiratory Care in the resolution of problems including service recovery. Assists with Innovation huddles, Shift huddles and departmental informational emails.

Supervises Respiratory staff, which includes assigning work, scheduling hours, assuring time and attendance records, training staff, coaching &counseling staff, maintaining anecdotal records for each coworker and evaluating performance. Interprets Medical Center policies and procedures, and sees that they are carried out by the staff. Maintains order in the department.
Fact Based Decision Making: Makes sound and timely decisions utilizing a mixture of quantitative and qualitative data, analysis, knowledge, and experiences. Collaborates with other leaders and departments to ensure safe quality care for each patient cared for at Mercy.
Planning and Organizing: Uses time effectively and efficiently, organizes, sets priorities, delegates appropriately, accomplishes goals through multiple activities, meets deadlines, and follows through on commitments. Assists the Manager/Director in the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. Participates in quality improvement and the development of department goals.
Financial Acumen: Able to make decisions that positively impact productivity, cost and revenue. Ability to foster and lead cost-efficient initiatives without sacrificing quality, service or core values. Maintains, cleans and inspects equipment and environment for operational conditions. Meets with sales representatives to discuss and evaluate new equipment for purchase decisions. Maintains adequate supplies and equipment. Assists Manager/Director in preparing requests for Capital purchases.
