Responsible for the development, implementation and carry through of age appropriate curriculum utilizing Project Construct Indicators, Developmentally Appropriate Practice and Accreditation Standards. Demonstrates the ability to understand each child's individual needs as well as the group. Assists each child in becoming an integral member of the group. Provides opportunities for children to construct their own knowledge through exploration and play experiences. Provides a smooth coordination of staff/child interaction and activities appropriately. Adaptations are provided when necessary to meet the individual learning style of each child. Relates to children in a positive and respectful manner. Responsible for the supervision and management of assigned classroom while providing a safe and nurturing environment. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards.

a. Demonstrates knowledge of and practices sound infection control techniques.
b. Ensures an overall safe environment inside/outside the classroom.
c. Supervises and cares for children consistently and appropriately. This includes use of the senses; sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell to carrying out daily expectations.
d. Redirects children as necessary to ensure safety of child and others.
e. Adheres to hospital and department safety regulations.
f. Reports broken and/or faulty toys/equipment and initiates repairs.
g. Follows policy/procedure for completion of event reports.
h. Follows basic body mechanics at all times, (i.e. lifting).
i. Aware of and demonstrates appropriate evacuation procedures.
Coordination of Services:
a. Assists in the orientation and training of new/float personnel.
b. Acquires supplies in ample time to perform daily duties.
c. Performs procedures according to department guidelines.
d. Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good judgment in use of time.
e. Demonstrates flexibility with staff assignments, workload and change
to meet the needs of the department.
f. Collaborates with co-workers/specialists to assure delivery of optimal program for the children at all times.
g. Keeps documentation and records of children current and available. Follows through with any problem areas.
h. Attends and/or participates in scheduled staff programs, meetings and In-services.
i. Completes and submits various documents in a timely manner, including, but not limited to:
a. Plans, prepares and implements age appropriate curriculum using Project Construct Indicators, Developmentally Appropriate Practice and Accreditation Standards with team/co-workers.
b. Develops and implements a schedule for the team and children to ensure a smooth routine. Effectively alters the routine as needed to meet the needs of the child, group and team.
c. Maintains an appropriate arrangement of interest centers to facilitate exploration and play experiences.
d. Establishes and implements room rules with assistance from the children, (with appropriate age groups).
e. Selects appropriate techniques of re-direction of children’s behavior; assisting children to resolve conflicts.
f. Responsible for sharing knowledge and expertise with all co-workers, including child development, activity ideas, room arrangement and understanding of curriculum through the provisions of books, mentoring and encouragement.
g. Recognizes the need and does assist other co-workers during busy
periods. Asks what needs to be done and readily volunteers in other areas.
h. Keeps assessment portfolios for all children containing developmental information, including, but not limited to:
- Anecdotal notes of play experiences
- Developmental milestones
- Behavior reports
i. Maintains alignment with PTO policy. Clocks in and out at scheduled times. Eliminates overtime (when possible) on a weekly basis.
j. Responsible for daily maintenance duties, general appearance and cleanliness of classroom and other rooms, (bathrooms, gross motor, staff lounge and outdoor play areas).
a. Greets all children, parents and co-workers.
b. Communicates with other co-workers to optimize the delivery of care and program for the children. Problem solve concerns together, openly.
c. Communication with parent is timely, consistent, appropriate and presented positively in regard to their child. Makes appropriate recommendations and referrals.
d. Offers parent/teacher conferences twice a year and as necessary (A copy of the completed evaluation form is placed in the child’s file).
e. Keeps manager informed of issues, concerns or situations requiring attention
and follow up.
