This is a PRN position and is located at Mercy Kids Olive and Mason.
Provides quality medical nutrition therapy for patient/ clients and promotes nutrition education to co-workers, staff and community. Collaborates with medical staff, nursing and appropriate ancillary departments to provide timely and effective implementation of nutrition care plans.
a. Follows procedures for completion of patient and co-worker incident/injury reports.
b. Follows confidentiality policies and procedures
c. Complies with patient identification policy.
d. Complies with infection control guidelines.
e. Complies with patient rights and regulations.
Coordination of Services
a. Participates in department performance improvement activity.
b. Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good judgment in use of time.
c. Works effectively as a multidisciplinary team member.
d. Provides nutrition care of patient with appropriate follow-up per policy/procedure.
e. Professional, courteous interaction with parents/ family members, peers and other hospital personnel.
a. Develops and implements nutrition education programs and education materials.
b. Assists with orientation/teaching of new staff and students.
c. Participates in department projects, committees and in services.
a. Utilizes assessment skills to identify existing or potential nutrition risk factors.
b. Provides Malnutrition diagnosis/clinical documentation using Mercy Adult Malnutrition Guidelines, Nutrition Focused Physical Examination and Mercy Malnutrition documentation process.
c. Interviews patient/ significant others to obtain information needed to develop appropriate diet/nutrition education plan.
d. Uses the Nutrition Care Process to design, initiate, update and maintain nutrition care plans to reflect the changing nutrition need of the patient/client.
e. Documents assessments, follow-up monitoring and education in appropriate areas if the electronic medical record. Records pertinent information in the department patient care record in an accurate and timely manner.
f. Provides appropriate nutrition education to patient/client/significant other to fulfill individual needs.
g. Provide food/drug interaction education to patient/client per policy.
h. Monitors lab, anthropometric data and intake to adjust nutrition care plan as per policy.
i. Assesses patients for enteral feeding (tube feeding) regimen. Calculates energy, protein, fluid and other nutrient needs for tube fed patients. Translates these needs into tube feeding recommendations.
j. Calculates energy, protein and other nutrient needs for patients receiving TPN/PPN. Translates these needs into parenteral fluid recommendations.
k. Confers with other clinical staff on unusually complex assessment/medical nutrition therapy situations.
l. Facilitates communication and collaboration among other health care team members.
a. Attends multidisciplinary rounds per nursing unit practice.
b. Demonstrates good customer and guest relation skills.
c. Demonstrates active listening skills.
d. Demonstrates proper telephone management techniques.
a. Maintains clinical knowledge base through continuing education and applies evidence based knowledge to current practice of medical nutrition care.
b. Maintains specialty certification through governing organization.
c. Demonstrates knowledge of patient information system, computer/printer functions.

Education: Must be a graduate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics approved Dietetic Internship Program.
Certifications: Must be registered with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and maintain registration status. Must maintain licensure within the State of Missouri , Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), Certified Diabetes Educator or other clinical specialty.
Preferred Experience: Two to four years of clinical nutrition experience preferred.
