Provide diagnostic sonograms for interpretation by radiologist. Assist radiologist in the performance of procedures and provide the patient care essential to ultrasound interventional guided procedures. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
a. Locates & properly operates oxygen, suction, blood pressure & other essential patient care equipment.
b. Consistently observes patients before, during & after procedures. Makes & uses appropriate immobilization devices.
c. Appropriately transfers patients to/from stretchers, wheelchairs & on/off procedure table, giving care to IVs & other appliances.
d. Safely operates all equipment & immediately reports malfunctions. Locates all emergency switches. Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures & radiation safety.
e. Assures that all data entered/ retrieved from physicians orders and/or computer system is accurate. Verifies accuracy prior to procedure.
Coordination of Services:
a. Reviews orders for diagnosis & prescriptions. Appropriately schedules patient & department resources for services.
b. Performs all procedures according to protocol stated in procedure manual, unless directed otherwise by radiologist/physician. Presents completed procedure to radiologist/ physician for interpretation.
c. Collaborates with staff members & physicians to assure delivery of optimal patient care at all times. Demonstrates ability to revise department schedule & staff assignments to meet patient & physician needs & maintain a smooth functioning department with limited rooms & equipment.
d. Assumes responsibility for portions of quality improvement program. Understands all phases. Keeps all documentation current & available. Follows through with any problem areas.
e. Assists in department orientation program as needed; assumes responsibility of training new staff. Assists staff members in keeping orientation program up to date. Contributes to development of educational needs of support staff and/or students.
f. Evaluates diagnostic procedure for appropriateness, takes corrective measures if needed. Screens for previous procedures.
a. Provides diagnostic sonograms with the ability to recognize structures visualized.
b. Assists radiologist/physician in ultrasound interventional guided procedures along with providing essential patient care.
c. Able to transmit images and troubleshoot teleradiology system. Verifies all
images from Exam appear on Ultravisual.
a. Greets patients by name; introduces self; provides patients with thorough
explanation of procedures, efficiently performs procedure. Uses good judgment with add-on cases to meet patient needs and department needs without disrupting schedule.
b. Understands safe & proper machine operation. Knows machine emergency
procedures and radiation safety procedures. Reviews as needed or at least yearly.
c. Demonstrates technical proficiency in producing diagnostic images with the ability to recognize technical abnormalities. Selects the appropriate techniques for each procedure. Positions patients according to department protocol.
d. Prepares & stocks rooms for various exams; checks equipment between patients; orders supplies as needed. Cleans room and equipment between patients, including patient waiting area.
e. Effectively alters routine procedures when patient condition indicates - making appropriate changes on requisitions. Vaxes exams timely. Submits charge sheets when indicated, filled out correctly.
f. Assists in the transportation of patients, specimens, films, etc. Processes films, operates CDS, refills chemicals as needed.
g. Works fair share of on-call & weekends. Willing to adjust personal schedule in case of fluctuations in workload or departmental need. Displays flexibility by willingly working in any area or changing scheduled work hours.
h. Maintains alignment with ETO policy. Clocks in & out at scheduled time, no earlier than six minutes before/after scheduled shift; eliminates (when possible) overtime on a weekly basis.
a. Routinely questions patient/family members before a procedure to obtain pertinent patient history. Always questions female patients as to whether they may be pregnant or nursing.
b. Monitors equipment operation & alerts appropriate personnel of any problems in a timely manner.
c. Keeps managers informed of any issues, problems or situations requiring attention or follow up.
d. Recognizes the need to assist other staff members during the busy times
throughout the day. Asks what needs to be done & readily volunteers in other areas including office, scheduling, etc.
e. Shares all relevant information at end of shift. Reports both verbally & written when both are possible.
f. Assures all communications regarding patient care are timely & appropriate. Recognizes patient crises & initiates appropriate measures.
a. Understands applications and effectively uses hospital & department computer systems.
b. Enters, saves, prints and retrieves information from systems; uses barcodes to improve efficiency and accuracy. Ensures that all procedure charges are properly entered/revised in system and/or submitted to appropriate person throughout shift.
c. Performs equipment quality control testing as required, i.e. cassette cleaning, apron checks, processors, radiation wipes.
d. Keeps abreast of new technology. Accepts responsibility for keeping informed of current department practices.
e. Initiates appropriate downtime procedures when necessary.
F. Completes initial and annual competencies

Experience: 2+ years exp hospital or 4+ years exp clinic setting
Certifications: Must have ARDMS certification in at least 1 applicable anatomic registry.
