The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing skilled professional nursing care to assigned terminally ill patients in their place of residence, as prescribed by the physician and in compliance with the standards of the Missouri Nurse Practice Act. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards.


As a hospice nurse, you will see about 4-5 patients each day and have a case load of 10 – 12 patients at a time.  Your visits range from  60 – 90 minutes with patients giving you a chance to have 1:1 care with each patient.  This position offers flexibility and needs you to be flexible in return.  This position will require a lot of driving – you can take advantage of our Fleet Car Program after 90 days of employment.

Our Hospice Nurses usually work Monday through Friday 8am-5pm and participate in on-call/holiday rotation.




Position Qualifications:

  • We require a nursing degree from an accredited school.
  • You’ll also need a current RN license in our state.
  • Must have at least 1 year of nursing experience; strongly prefer experience with hospice care, oncology or long term care. 
  • Strongly prefer you have strong IV skills. 
  • Basic life support training through American Heart Association
  • EMR Experience helpful but not required. 
  • Basic computer skills and a working knowledge of Windows, Word and Outlook.
  • Other: Complies with accepted professional standards and practice. Understands Hospice philosophy; principles related to death and dying and pain management. Complies with Mercy Hospice health status requirements. Has excellent observation, good nursing assessment and communication skills. Has ability to provide good written documentation in a timely manner. Is self-directed with the ability to work with little supervision. Is flexible and cooperative in fulfilling role obligation and has ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Preferred Experience: Recent hospice or long term care experience preferred. Experience with issues related to death/dying and bereavement preferred.
  • Preferred Other: Basic computer skills as well as a working knowledge of Windows, Word and Outlook.
