The Pharmacy Technician II, under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and according to the established procedures, assists with the filling and delivery of medication orders, I.V. preparation, Chemotherapy prepartations, prepacking, filling medication cabinets, labeling and dispensing drug orders. Maintains patient profiles, and when appropriate, enters charges into the computer system. Performs other related duties as required. Reports to the Pharmacy Tech Supervisor, Pharmacy Operations Manager, and/or Director of Pharmacy.
Support: Accurately fills physician orders according to the prescription. Always places orders so pharmacist can review prior to sending to the floor. Assists the nurses with appropriate medication-related questions. Accurately fills medication cabinets and other orders needed to replenish floor stock. Accurately and efficiently runs and manages different technologies (Automated Dispensing Cabinets) in the pharmacy department. Assists in all jobs when requested due to fluctuations in patient census, short staffing or regular assignment of duties, such as answering the phone and triaging work-flow. Delivers and returns medication orders to patient floors as assigned.
Organization: Keeps work areas orderly and sanitary. Demonstrates an ability to prioritize workload and to adjust personal schedule to complete work. Responsible to others in a helpful manner in times of increased work load. Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
Policy and Procedures: Demonstrates a complete understanding of all policies and procedures and responsibilities of a pharmacy technician. Regularly consults with pharmacists in matters of uncertainty. Observes hospital dress code and policies regarding ID badges. At assigned work station and ready to work when scheduled.
Leadership: Participates in the PI process and identifies opportunities to improve patient care delivery, including collecting data, monitoring and implementing changes. Enhances the learning opportunities to other staff and effectively contributes to the orientation of team members and students, including automation training for pharmacy employees. Strives to be an effective member of the department. Is courteous and maintains a good rapport and working relationship with others.
Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma, GED or Higher Education
Licensure: Pharmacy Tech--MO
Experience: At least five years of hospital Pharmacy IV compounding/Chemotherapy experience. USP 797 and USP 800 experience.
Certifications: Pharmacy Tech--MO. Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) to be completed within 1 year of hire or promotion
Other: Excellent interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills. Able to type and/or operate a computer in a network environment. Knowledge of pharmacy drugs, pharmacology, drug interactions and nomenclature. Able to operate various pieces of office equipment, including, but not limited to, computers, printers, fax machines, copy machines, etc.
Preferred Education: Secondary and some post-secondary.
