  1. Manage the creation of financial performance and benchmarking analyses using tools and methodologies developed within the Financial Performance department.
  2. Manage the development, implementation, and utilization of financial performance analysis tools and solutions. This includes managing report and tool development processes, creation and documentation of standard processes and procedures, and providing leadership support for user training and troubleshooting complex technical issues. 
  3. Oversee the development, validation and management of data interfaces and reconciliations between EPSi, various Lawson modules, Epic, Mercy Data Warehouse, custom developed analysis tools and other systems as needed.
  4. Manage day to day maintenance for EPSi application, including but not limited to testing for upgrades and patches, trouble shooting, and ensuring that reference tables/fields are maintained in accordance with Lawson Financial and Payroll modules and Mercy Data Warehouse standards.
  5. Drive the development and implementation of new functionality and advanced analytic capabilities of the EPSi application.
  6. Lead collaborative work efforts with community-based Mercy Finance teams, MTS, operational departments and other Mercy service areas.
  7. Effectively communicate the status and impact of changes to financial performance analysis tools and information.
  8. Provide financial leadership and governance across the Ministry, particularly in the areas of department or AU standardization, statistical and metric definitions, and the integration of financial and non-financial data.
  9. Manage the automation of statistical data collection from Epic and other source systems.
  10. Keep current with new technology, which is appropriate and capable of supporting the strategic initiatives of Mercy Health System.


Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Manager - Business Application manages the development, implementation, maintenance and utilization of multiple planning and analysis software packages including EPSi and custom developed databases, data-marts, reports and dashboards.  This position manages the administration of the EPSi financial reporting and analysis tools specifically, including data sourcing, movement and validation, report and analytic development, user training and support, system upgrade testing and implementation.


They lead initiatives working directly with clinical, financial and operational departments across the Ministry to identify and address the need for financial performance analysis solutions.  This position leads the development of tools and methodologies for financial performance and benchmarking analyses.  He/she further utilizes those tools to provide financial leadership and insights to Mercy Operational and Finance areas, particularly in the areas of Labor & Supply Stewardship and Resource Optimization.


They provide leadership and governance across Mercy in the areas of Department/Accounting Unit standardization, statistical data definitions and automation, financial performance metrics definitions and calculation standards, and the integration of Epic EHR, payroll, financial and other performance data. 


This position will also provide leadership to MTS and other teams regarding the appropriate use of financial performance data and analyses, and will ensure that financial data and metrics are calculated and used appropriately in dashboards and other presentation formats.  The Manager – Manager Business Application will design and manage strategies to provide accurate financial data and metrics to reporting and development teams outside of Finance.


The Manager – Business Application will also provide management and leadership to a group of four or more direct reports, including but not limited to Senior Financial Analysts and Senior Financial Business Analysts.  In addition, this position will coordinate and lead community and Ministry-based analysts and managers across Mercy Finance who do not have a direct reporting relationship.

Minimum Requirement

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Information Technology.
  • Experience: Ten or more years experience in financial analysis in a multiple-facility health care environment.
  • Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Proficient knowledge of Epic Clarity Hospital Billing and Physician Billing.
    • Ten or more years experience with standard report generating and data visualization tools such as Business Objects, Cognos, Lumera, or Tableau.
    • Five or more years experience designing and optimizing relational database architecture, and creating and utilizing data interface mechanisms.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and effectively allocate resources between multiple projects.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with and lead diverse groups.
    • Ability to travel up to 20%.

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Business or Healthcare Administration
  • Experience with EPSi application
