Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Surgical Technologist will provide direct patient care under the direct supervision of the surgeon, and the circulating Registered Nurse consistent with the established standards of practice, the goals of Mercy Health System, the philosophy of the Sister’s of Mercy and the Employee Code of Conduct. Efficiently set-up surgical cases in multiple specialty disciplines, providing equipment and supplies based on patient needs and surgeon preference. Demonstrate technical skills related to: creating and maintaining a sterile field; performing instrument, sponge, and sharp counts; and assisting other OR staff per patient safety and direct patient care policies. Functions as resource person for newly hired Surgical Technicians and students of visiting Surgical Technology schools. Performs related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:

 

  • Successful completion of a recognized Surgical Technologist course and/or possesses a significant amount of Surgical Technologist experience in a hospital setting.
  • Significant amount of Surgical Technologist experience in a hospital setting.
  • Must have a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or complete a course within their probation period.
  • May be required to work differing schedules, shifts, days of the week, or work frequency of the week, or work frequency according to patient requirements.
