    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Business Risk Services (BRS) is a Mercy wide function that works collaboratively within an enterprise risk management framework, focusing on financial risks. BRS is responsible for assessing risk areas and for developing a plan to gain a more in-depth understanding of significant risks to the organization, while evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of the internal control environment. This function performs risk assessments, reviews, and internal audits throughout Mercy and provides assistance to Mercy's external audit firm. The Manager assumes a leadership role in Mercy's commitment to maintaining a strong system of internal controls. Participates in performing risk assessments and the development of the annual audit plan. Coordinates the execution of audit projects and the development of audit reports. Assists in preparing and presenting periodic reports to Mercy Leadership and Board of Directors. Responsible for managing and providing oversight to a staff of professional auditors. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with Mercy's mission, values, and service standards. Travels to other Mercy communities approximately 10-25% of time.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Education: B.S. degree in accounting or related field, Masters preferred.
    • Experience: Five plus years of auditing experience, preferably within the healthcare industry.
    • Other: - Knowledge of internal controls and business risks within a healthcare environment. - Ability to evaluate the internal control environment with a high degree of objectivity and identify significant business risks to the organization. - Must possess necessary interpersonal skills to interact and communicate appropriately with various levels of management within the health system. - Ability to supervise co-workers and effectively plan and manage multiple projects. - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff. - Must be proficient with computer software, primarily MS Office (Access, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). 
    • Preferred Education: Masters preferred.
    • Preferred Licensure: CIA, CPA, or CFE certification preferred.
    • Preferred Experience: Internal or external audit experience strongly preferred. Experience leading projects and directing staff.
    • Preferred Certifications: 
    • Preferred Other: Knowledge of hospital operations and processes desired.
