Responsibilities and Qualifications

Under direct review of the director, performs general business office, admissions, and health

information management duties. Assesses patient/guest's needs and delivers service

appropriately. Performs patient registration and billing functions. Handles patient billing

problems and communicates openly and frequently with Mercy's

Business Office personnel as well as the Regional Business Office in St. Louis in this regard.

Performs pre-certifications on admissions/outpatients when needed. Answers the telephone in

a manner that is consistent with the Mercy Core Values and performs other duties as required.

Under direct review of director, performs record assembly and analysis, abstracting, filing,

coding, indexing, record retrieval, medical transcription, and release of records. Maintains

discharge register and daily census register and other logs as needed. Active in department

quality assurance activities. Participates in interdepartmental and other hospital meetings.

Adheres strictly to the HIPAA requirements and helps to ensure patient confidentiality. Performs

duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service

Education:  High school education required with experience in typing, computers, office machines
