Assists patients in purchasing glasses, writes up orders and charges, checks and verifies completed orders, notifies patient when orders are ready or if there is a delay. Performs adjustments on glasses, maintains optical supplies and frames. Assists in lab when necessary. Answers telephone calls concerning optical; verifies monthly optical statement for payment; jointly works toward smooth and efficient operation in optical. Assists patient in purchasing glasses.
Checks prescription for frame selection.
Fits frames: eye size, bridge, temple length, color, shape.
Discusses lens material: plastic or glass, high index, etc.
Discusses style of bifocal or trifocal. Takes seg height measurements.
Takes pupil distance measurement.
Discusses extras: tint, UV400 filter, scratch coat, etc.
Performs adjustments to frame before measurements for multifocal lenses taken.
Writes up charge ticket and discusses charges with patient and escorts patient to cashiers.
Places orders for frames and/or parts.
Performs adjustments and repairs.
Notifies patients that glasses are ready or if there are delays on orders.
Orders supplies and sundries for department.
Meets with frame representatives and other optical vendors.
Works with outside labs and addresses patient problems.
Assists in lab area as necessary.
Prepares first of month statements.
Cleans and maintains optical display area.
19.1 Prepares and mails optical “thank you” letters.
19.2 Opens and processes optical mail.
20.1 Performs additional duties as assigned.
20.2 Meets Health System attendance standards.
20.3 Wears clothing and Health System badge consistent with dress code, and attends to personal hygiene to maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance.
20.4 Wears proper personal protective equipment when appropriate.
20.5 Observes universal precautions consistently.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure: None required.
Experience: Must have good telephone and communication skills.
Certifications: None required.
Other: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Must be able to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and policies. Must be able to communicate clearly and establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public. Equipment Used: Previous experience with work on lensometer preferred.
Preferred Experience: One year work experience preferred
