Under the direct supervision of the department manager and upon request of the physician, sets up and operates various types of respiratory care equipment and therapies to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary disease and/or illness. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups to include neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Performs various therapy procedures (IPPB, hand held nebulizers, ventilators, incentive spirometry, CPT, suctioning, etc.) in conformity with departmental policies and procedures in all areas required (ER, ICU, OR, etc). Includes airway management, such as assistance with intubations, extubations, suctioning.
1.2 Performs, processes and files EKG's in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
1.3 Performs pulmonary function testing in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
1.4 Demonstrates knowledge of the changes in therapy and normal values associated with age of patient.
1.5 Demonstrates ability to provide care based upon physical, psycho/social, cultural
safety and other age related factors.
1.6 Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patients
Administration of therapeutic modalities for adult and pediatric areas based on the knowledge of professional
studies and in accordance with current policies and procedures.
2.1 Describes treatment to patient and/or family member prior to administration in a professional,
therapeutic manner 100% of the time.
2.2 Consistently performs treatments on time and documents results in the patient chart before the end of the shift. Notifies the supervisor of any problems with completing work assignment 100% of the time.
2.3 Instills medication according to established Policies and Procedures 100% of the

2.5 Sets priorities with assistance from the supervisor in providing patient care when unusual circumstances arise.
Utilizes technical skills while providing adequate maintenance of ventilation during cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and while responding to general hospital emergency situations. Responds to all "code blue" and "stat" calls immediately.
3.1 Performs bag and mask ventilation and assists with life threatening events within 2-5 minutes of code blue page or immediately upon finding a coding patient.
3.2 Reviews yearly and demonstrates competency in performance of all other emergency situations, such as code red.
3.3 Completes bi-annual CPR re-certification.

Education: Must be a graduate of an AMA accredited Respiratory Therapy Program, and credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a LRCP.
Licensure: Maintain current RCP license in the State of Oklahoma.
Experience: Four years’ experience as a RRT.
Certifications: AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification.
Other: Must be familiar with procedures and equipment provided by this department. Must also be familiar with indications, contraindications, and hazards of various therapy. Must be able to work under limited supervision and make rational and logical decisions from data obtained by consultation with physicians, lab results and patient assessment.
Preferred Experience:1 year Critical Care experience.
Preferred Certifications: NBRC RRT credential. AHA ACLS Provider certification. AHA PALS Provider certification.
