**If you are not currently employed by Mercy Hospital St. Louis as a PCA/PCT or Behavioral Health Tech, you must be available to complete a full-time 2 week training class held Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30 pm, immediately upon hire. Upon successful completion of the class component, 100 hours of clinical department training are also required.**
This position requires 24 hours/week from 6:30PM-7:00AM with rotating weekends and holidays.
Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient’s highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient. Assists in unit operational support tasks or duties.

a. Demonstrates knowledge of and practices sound infection control techniques.
b. Assesses safety needs and provides for a safe environment: Fall Precautions; Restraint Management; Patient Identification; Unit/Departmental Specific Policies
c. Labels and properly secures guest’s/patient’s personal property.
d. Adheres to hospital wide safety regulations.
e. Performs equipment safety checks and reports faulty equipment/initiates repair.
f. Follows policy/procedure for completion of incident reports.
g. Follows confidentiality policy/procedure.
h. Complies with patient rights/regulations.
Coordination of Services:
a. Assists in the orientation of new/float personnel.
b. Acquires adequate supplies to perform daily care.
c. Acquires, sets up, and properly disposes of equipment for special procedures abd discharge rooms
d. Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good judgement in use of time.
e. Participates in QI activities that ensure and enhance quality of patient care.
f.. Maintains work area by performing the following activities:
-procures necessary forms/supplies as needed for unit and patient care needs.
-maintains accurate census information and updates electronic bed board/daily log.
g. Coordinates workflow by communicating to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
a. Administers daily hygiene measures.
b. Performs routine daily activities: ambulation, passes trays, snacks, water, feeds patients, turns and
positions patients, observes for skin breakdown.
c. Gathers and records patient data and documents in EMR.
d. Performs bedside glucose testing.
e. Observes changes or unusual occurrences in patient condition and reports them immediately to the
f. Provides patients and their families with explanation of care and psychological support under the direction
of the nurse.
g. Participates in the admission, discharge and transfer of patients and their belongings.
h. Applies knowledge of cost effectiveness without jeopardizing patient outcomes.
i. Demonstrates flexibility regarding workload, assignments and change.
j. Maintains EMR:
k. Verifies that appropriate charges have been documented and entered into the computer.
l. Assures all patient charges/credits/accommodation codes are entered appropriately.
m. Completion of charge entry for complex procedures (IV infusions) and departmental supplies.
n. Completes the charge reconciliation process.
a. Accepts delegation of tasks.
b. Communicates with other members of the HCT to optimize the care of the patient.
c. Supports downtime of EMR by planning/preparation as directed.
d. Utilizes telephone/pager system and nurse call system efficiently.
e. Greets visitors and family members when arrive on unit.
a. Performs unit specific computer/printer functions.
b. Utilizes and troubleshoots fax machine, copier and tube system
