    Responsibilities and Qualifications


    To provide anesthesia care that has been prescribed by a physician. The Anesthesia Department has established protocols for routine anesthesia care which are to be followed unless the physician prescribes care that varies from the protocol. In all such instances, the prescribed care will be followed.

    Work duties include

    • Both Mercy Hospitals in Aurora and Cassville as needed
    • Respond to requests throughout the hospital for starting infusions, checking endotracheal tube placements, and reintubating when needed
    • Completes annual mandatory education programs
    • Takes anesthesia call to provide uninterrupted emergency anesthesia services as needed.



    • Induce and monitor anesthesia
    • Support life functions in the peri-anesthesia course
    • Demonstrate competency in intubation, IV monitoring, and other similar activities necessary to conduct anesthesia
    • Properly use all anesthesia equipment supplied by the department
    • Prepare supplies and check anesthesia equipment according to protocol for each anesthetic assigned
    • Restore all equipment and supplies to operating capacity following each anesthetic
    • Recognize and take appropriate corrective action (including the requesting of consultation when necessary) for abnormal patient responses to anesthesia or to any adjunctive medication or other form of therapy
    • Assist all other members of the Anesthesia Department, when available, with induction, as well as all other aspects of peri-anesthesia care
    • Provide resuscitative care (including the requesting of consultation when necessary) in the operating room, recovery room, or throughout the hospital
    • Wears proper personal protective equipment when appropriate
    • Observes universal precautions consistently
    • Wears clothing and Health System badge consistent with dress code, and attends to personal hygiene to maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance
    • Meets Health System attendance standards
    • Performs related duties as assigned.

    Education: Graduation from an accredited anesthesia program.

    Licensure: Advanced Practice License from the State of Missouri. Must be certified and qualify for recertification when needed by meeting the post-graduate education requirements of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists or other acceptable organizations. Maintain CME levels as required by state regulations and to maintain licensure.
    Certifications: CPR, ACLS required, PALS required.
