Responsible for the administration of diagnostic testing as ordered by the physicians. Measures and records all findings for the physicians to interpret. Assists in department operational support tasks or duties. Supports the continuous improvement of quality and service to ensure SJMMC’s goal of excellence in clinical outcomes and satisfaction for those whom we serve. Demonstrates fairness, integrity, and compassion in all interactions with patients, visitors and staff and respects the confidential information to which he/she may have access. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and mercy service standards.

Experience and Education Requirements:
Experience: Minimum of two years recent clinical experience.
Certifications: ARDMS or CCI required. BLS/CPR.
Other: Excellent communication skills needed as well as patient empathy. Call required.
Minimum skills, knowledge and ability requirements:
a. Maintains and handles equipment according to manufacturers specifications.
b. Participates in activities that ensure and enhance quality of patient care.
c. Performs daily Q.A. checks on equipment as needed.
d. Demonstrates knowledge of cost containment without compromising patient outcome.
Coordination of Services:
a. Productivity is commensurate with daily patient volume as equally distributed among other sonographers.
b. Recognizes opportunities to assist other staff and assist them in an independent effort.
c. Accepts delegation of tasks.
d. Assure that the service and or task quality is maintained by participating in monitoring and documenting the progress on the established Quality Improvement indicators.
e. Demonstrates responsibility for checking orders and obtaining orders for testing.
f. Assists all other staff members with completion of duties when needed.
g. Participates in the monitoring and evaluation of the unit’s Q.I. program.
h. Demonstrates proficiency in documenting Q.I. form and follow-up as needed.
a. Demonstrates the ability to answer clinical questions as posed by the referring physician.
b. Successfully complete the educational requirements and skills checklist with supervision for each newly required skill or task before independently performing service/ task.
c. Seeks appropriate learning experiences for the current job description.
d. Participates in teaching and in development of in-services for Cardiopulmonary and for areas throughout the Heath Center.
a. Performs diagnostic tests following appropriate protocol.
b. All functions associated with performing echocardiograms are done accurately and efficiently.
c. All clinical information to accompany echocardiograms is entered, tapes of recorded patient data are rewound for cardiologists in a timely manner.
d. Previous tests are retrieved from archives and are submitted with current test data for comparison if requested.
e. Demonstrates the responsibility for accurate charge and credit entry into the computer database and completes charge sheets.
f. Files tapes and records in an accurate and timely manner. Sorts procedure files for storage in the department or archives as time permits.
g. Organizes and manages time in proportion to workload. Achieves a satisfactory level of productivity by accomplishing assigned duties in an acceptable time frame. (1 complete procedure m-mode/2-d/color/doppler per hour).
h. Acquires adequate supplies to perform daily care.
a. Makes self available for performing duties and communicates with team members to assure prompt performance of duties.
b. The technologist upholds the following policy without exception: The technologist may not interpret test results, or offer impressions to other physicians, house staff, patients or their family members in any manner that may by construed as a diagnosis. No technologist may perform a study on a patient related to then in any way.
c. Communicates to the immediate supervisor any abnormalities in daily routines such as physicians or patient concerns, equipment malfunction or any other information pertinent to patient safety and department functioning.
d. Performs clerical duties as necessary (i.e.: answers telephone and faxes reports).
e. Assists in evaluation of new products, equipment, policies, procedures and standards.
