    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    Education: High school diploma, G.E.D. and/or current co-worker of Mercy. Successful completion of PCA course.

     

    Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patients highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient. Assists in unit operational support tasks or duties.

     

    Responsibilities
    Safety/Risk Management:
    a. Demonstrates knowledge of and practices sound infection control techniques.
    b. Assesses safety needs and provides for a safe environment: Fall Precautions; Restraint Management; Patient Identification; Unit/Departmental Specific Policies
    c. Labels and properly secures guestÂ’s/patientÂ’s personal property.
    d. Adheres to hospital wide safety regulations.
    e. Performs equipment safety checks and reports faulty equipment/initiates repair.
    f. Follows policy/procedure for completion of Mercy Event reports.
    g. Follows confidentiality policy/procedure.
    h. Complies with patient rights/regulations.


    Coordination of Services:
    a. Assists in the orientation of new/float personnel.
    b. Acquires adequate supplies to perform daily care.
    c. Acquires, sets up, and properly disposes of equipment for special procedures and discharege rooms.
    d. Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good judgement in use of time.
    e. Participates in QI activities that ensure and enhance quality of patient care.
    f. Maintains work area by performing the following activites:
    - procures necessary forms/suppplies as needed for unit and patint care needs
    - maintains accurate census informationand updates electronic bed board/daliy log
    g. Coordinates workload by communicating to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner

    Primary Aspects:
    a. Administers daily hygiene measures.
    b. Performs routines daily activities: ambulation, passes trays, snacks, water, feeds patients, turns and
    positions patients, observes for skin breakdown.
    c. Gathers and records patient data and documents in the EMR.
    d. Performs bedside glucose monitoring.
    e. Observes changes or unusual occurrences in patient condition and reports them immediately to the appropriate personnel.
    f. Provides patients and their families with explanation of care and psychological support under the direction of the nurse.
    g. Participates in the admission, discharge and transfer of patients and their belongings.
    h. Applies knowledge of cost effectiveness without jeopardizing patient outcome.
    i. Demonstrates flexibility regarding workload, assignments and change.
    j. Maintains EMR:
    - files all reports accuurately and timely
    - prepares charts for admission/discharge/transfer
    - assures all charts are labeled with proper patient information
    - assures charts have necessary forms available and unnecessary forms are removed
    k. Verifies that appropriate charges have been documented on charge sheet and entered into the computer
    l. Assures all patient charges/credits/accomodations codes are entered appropriately
    m. Completion of charge entry for complex procedures (IV infusions) and departmental supplies
    n. Completes the charge reconciliation process

     

    Communication Management:
    a. Accepts delegation of tasks.
    b. Communicates with other members of the HCT to optimize the care of the patient.
    c. Supports downtime of EMR by planning/preparation as directed
    d. Utlizes telephone/pager system and nurse call system efficiently
    e. Greeta visitors and family members when arrive on unit

     

    Technology:
    a. Performs unit specific computer functions.
    b. Utilizes and troubleshoots fax machine, copier, and tube system
