    The Patient Care Associate works under the supervision of the Director and/or Clinical Manager, and is responsible for the delivery of efficient, safe patient care within the scope of practice as established by the Missouri State Board of Nursing and Mercy Hospital policies and procedures. Duties to include admission of patients according to hospital policy, ECGs,and assisting with activities of daily living (ADL's) to include bathing, dressing and undressing, feeding, positioning, comforting, ambulation, passive range of motion and other activities as necessary. May perform other assigned duties as required.

    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Assistance is provided by using the appropriate policy, protocols, standards of practice within the PCA scope of practice. Recognizes and reports abnormalities in patient condition or monitored data to the appropriate staff. Recognizes limitations, and seeking additional assistance if necessary.

    The Plan of Care is supported by admitting patients and completing the appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record and or paper chart when necessary. Reports pertinent information to staff and collaboration with the healthcare team to plan/provide patient care as evidenced by documentation.


    Documentation is provided by ensuring that the patient record reflects the plan of care, patient care delivered and the status during his or her care and discharge. Ensures that the information is legible, concise, accurate, objective and timely, while meeting hospital standards.


    Care is provided by assisting patients with activities of daily living in a timely and caring manner.

     

    Documents the patient's response to procedures, therapies, medications and interventions.

     

    Demonstrates or developing proficiency in performing and/or assisting in procedures and therapies according to policy and procedures.


    When telemetry monitoring is ordered, the PCA ensures device is placed on patient prior to transfer to the nursing units and contacts the monitor tech to ensure proper placement.

    Leadership is provided by directing and coordinating assignments and care given by team members based on staff competencies, experience and scope of responsibility. Participates in the quality and process improvement plan and identifies opportunities to improve patient care delivery, including collecting data, monitoring and implementing changes.


    Enhances the learning opportunities to other staff, and by effectively contributing to the orientation of team members and students.

     

    Responsible for stocking supplies throughout the department, including medication rooms.

     

    Exhibits dependability by working shift as scheduled. Exhibits dependability by limiting absences and tardiness in accordance to Mercy HR policy.

    Qualifications:

     

    Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:

     

    Education: High school or GED.

    Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) before seeing patients independently

    Other: Excellent interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills. Mercy PCA (Patient Care Associate) training within 3 months Of hire.

    Skills required within 90 days of hire: Ability/skill to draw blood, care for immunocompromised patients and renal compromised patients.

    Preferred: Previous Healthcare experience
