    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Performs phlebotomy procedures to include venipuncture and capillary puncture (finger and heel sticks). Ensures that specimens are accurately labeled. May work in one or several locations within the hospital to include, but not limited to: inpatient settings, outpatient setting, emergency department, pre-surgical, and surgical areas. May perform some Point-of-Care (bedside) laboratory testing. Must be calm in a potentially hectic environment. At all times must act in a professional manner. Should have good interpersonal skills. Should be able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication. Must recognize the need for confidentiality in all phases of the job. Must never divulge a patient’s name, other demographic information, or what test(s) have been ordered.

    • Education:  High school diploma or equivalent
    • Other Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Cross-trained in a secondary lab function area such as Emergency Department, Out-patient Services, etc. (Required for Lab Support Tech II) Computer skills. Organizational skills. Good communication skills. Ability to maintain accurate and orderly records.
    • Preferred Experience: 6 months phlebotomy or clinical laboratory experience preferred.
