    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in the Mercy Virtual vICU Program and in accordance with all applicable Federal, State, and hospital rules, regulations, policies and procedures, performs all duties assigned by vICU Medical Director, concerning patients and their care.  Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Virtual Service Standards. Performs virtual patient care in all aspects of respiratory therapy according to physicians' orders and program workflows.

     

    • Assist, mentor and monitor RT staff at bedside.
    • Assist bedside team to identify and extubate patients as appropriate with primary goal to extubate earlier.
    • Assists with development of vVent program and dashboard projects.
    • Coordinate and execute care with the vICU care team.
    • Performs technical skills relative to area of respiratory practice.
    • Discuss implementation of appropriate respiratory care interventions and procedures.
    • Identifies patient education needs, utilizes appropriate resources to meet needs, and documents patient teaching.
    • Must be able to apply analytical skills and medical knowledge in order to care for patients.
    • Demonstrates competence in assisting physician with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
    • Documents appropriately in EMR so that verbiage is factual, accurate, organized, complete, current, and confidential.
    • Demonstrates clinical reasoning skills, which includes decision-making, critical thinking and a global grasp of the situation.
    • Remains current with the literature and best practice in designated field.
    • Assist with virtual projects related to respiratory therapy.
    • Must exhibit autonomy and critical thinking skills.
    • Must possess excellent communication skills to interact with co-workers and patients/family over the phone and on video.
    • Must possess interpersonal skills to interact effectively with co-workers and other medical staff in a virtual care setting.
    • Must be team oriented and patient centric.
    • Must possess the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.

    Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:

     

    • Education: Graduate from an Accredited College Program in Respiratory Care.
    • Licensure: Must have a current license in the State of Missouri.Also, must be willing to get licensure in other states that we serve.
    • Experience: 5 years minimum
    • Certifications: Registered as a therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care (RRT). BLS and ACLS (may obtain upon hire)
    • Preferred Experience: Prior Adult Intensive Care and Emergency Department care
    • Preferred Licensure: RRT
      Preferred Certifications: ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist from the NBRC). Required to obtain within 2 years of hire.
