    The Nuclear Medicine Technologist works under the supervision of the Administrative Supervisor and/or Director, and prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies, utilizing a variety of equipment and following prescribed procedures. Administers therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals under the direction of a physician, and follows radiation safety techniques when disposing radioactive materials.


    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Patient Assessment: Works efficiently and coordinates with other team members to ensure a smooth flow of patient care. Evaluates the appropriate orders, documents, radiation doses before, during and after procedures. Interprets and initiates appropriate actions to changes in patient condition and monitoring data. Makes necessary decisions and works independently when needed. Recognizes limitations, and seeks additional assistance if necessary.

    Plan of Care: Provides good diagnostic information towards the plan of care. Incorporates patient and significant others' involvement to support the patient goal, as well as interdisciplinary plan of care. Reports pertinent information to staff and physicians and collaborates with the healthcare team to plan/provide patient care as evidenced by documentation.

    Clinical Expertise: Obtains, verifies, and implements physician orders. Documents the patient's response to procedures, medications, and interventions. Demonstrates proficiency in performing and/or assisting in all procedures according to policy and procedures. Proficient at venipuncture and IV care. Displays good prioritization of patient sequencing and assistance in keeping patient flow optimized. Exhibits high standard of knowledge of all required QA on cameras and hot lab equipment and records concerning these.

    Patient Education: Assesses and utilizes methods based on the patient and significant other's knowledge base, communication skills, developmental age, ability and readiness to learn.

    Documentation: Ensures that the patient record reflects the patient care delivered and the status during
    his or her diagnostic exam. Works with a high degree of organization to record and resolve problems and follows through on any outstanding issues. Ensures that the information is legible, concise, accurate, objective and timely while meeting hospital standards.

    Leadership: Participates in the PI process and identifies opportunities to improve patient care delivery, including collecting data, monitoring and implementing changes. Enhances the learning opportunities to other staff and effectively contributes to the orientation of team members and students.



    Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:


    Education: Secondary and some post-secondary. Graduate of an accredited Radiological Program or completion of an approved Nuclear Medicine training program.
    Certifications: BLS Basic Life Support Within 3 Months Of Hire. ARRT and/or CNMT In Nuclear Medicine--MO.
    Other: Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills. Must be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Must be able to operate various types of office equipment, including a computer, fax machine, telephone, printer and copy machine.
