    About Us

    Our EVS Team helps create a lasting impression on our patients and visitors. Our housekeeping staff are a crucial part of ensuring each and every patient is provided a clean, quiet, and calming environment. This department maintains the appearance and sanitation of all areas of Mercy Hospital including, but not limited to patient rooms, diagnostic testing rooms, waiting areas, staff areas, examination rooms and operating rooms in accordance with infection control regulations. EVS is also responsible for disposing of trash, recyclables, and medical waste according to policies and procedures.

    Cleans designated areas of the Medical Center to maintain orderly and sanitary conditions. Performs all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards. Performs all other duties as assigned.


    Safety/Risk Management
    a. Consistently performs all policies, practices and procedures, both departmental and hospital-wide, necessary to ensure safety, including, but not limited to:
    - Infection control procedures
    - Environmental management practices
    - Patient Rights protection
    - Fall prevention practices
    - Unit specific precautions
    - Confidentiality policies and procedures

    Coordination of Services
    a. Stacks carts with the appropriate supplies, equipment and materials.

    Primary Aspects
    a. Cleans assigned areas by washing and disinfecting furnishings and equipment according to standard.
    b. Sweeps, mops, and vacuums carpets.
    c. Wipes, dusts, scrubs and washes window frames, walls, sinks, tubs, toilets, desks, tables and countertops.
    d. Refills soap, towels and other items.
    e. Transports custodial cart to assigned areas.
    f. Empties, washes and relines trash baskets.
    g. Removes and places trash in appropriate areas.
    h. Empties and washes trash carts in compactor.

    Communications Management
    a. Answers and responds to telephone calls in a timely manner.
    b. Maintains a high level of customer service and guest relations.
    c. Provides input on pending decisions.

    a. Maintains current knowledge of all equipment used.

    Complex Aspects
    a. Performs terminal room cleaning (isolations).
    b. Removes and hangs cubicle curtains & draperies as assigned.

    • Other: Must be able to read and understand basic instructions. The physical demands described here are the representative of the minimums that must be met by an employee to perform all essential functions of the job. Most physical demands are above, plus:
      • Minimal: Pushing 67 lbs(rarely) 22# (regularly), pulling up to 34 lbs, kneeling and/or crouching, climbing stairs, carrying 24# (1 handed) and 32# (2 handed), balance, and pinching.
      • Frequent: Griping up to 40 lbs
      • Continuous: hand coordination.
    • Preferred Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
