    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Responsible for developing, organizing, implementing, modifying and progressing safe/ effective conditioning programs for fitness center members and pulmonary rehab patients, for developing patient educational materials and conducting individual/group teaching sessions and for collaborating closely with clinical team to achieve optimal pulmonary rehabilitation outcomes for each individual patient. Handle confidential client records. Responsibilities are generally covered by standard practice instructions, operating directives or established procedures. Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards under general supervision of Fitness Center Supervisor and Team Leader.

    • Collaborate with Pulmonary Rehab clinicians to prescribe exercise and develop a plan of rehabilitative care for patients with diverse pulmonary medical conditions according to AACVPR/ACSM.
    • Conduct submaximal fitness assessments on all individuals.
    • Determine assessment results and prescribe individualized exercise programs for all individuals (including the highest risk individuals by 3 months of employment).
    • Facilitate client compliance to prescribed exercise plan while providing new limitations, or as requested by Fitness Center members.
    • Maintain organized work place.
    • Maintain safe environment.
    • Plan, develop, and conduct fitness and/or wellness related activities for Fitness Center members, Mercy employees and other groups as requested.
    • Participate in organizational activities.
    • Maintain/participate in educational and organizational requirements.

     

    Qualifications:

    Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:

     

    Education: Bachelor's degree in Health/Exercise Physiology related field.
    Certifications: CPR required.
    Other: Good verbal and listening skills.
    Preferred Experience: Related work experience desirable.
    Preferred Certifications: Certification as a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness, and/or ACSM certification.
    Preferred Other: Excel.
