    Responsibilities and Qualifications


    This professional health care team member is responsible for the nutritional care of the patient and serves as a interdepartmental resource regarding nutrition issues. The individual may have advanced training and certifications for specific patient populations.



    Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:


    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Human Nutrition or Related Field.
    • Licensure: Registered Dietitian / Licensed Dietitian.
    • Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Adequate visual and auditory skills to provide patient care. Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods of time and to walk for long distances.


    Preferred Certifications:

    • Certified Diabetes Educator
    • Certified Nutrition Support Clinician or Commission on Dietetic Registration Board certifications:
      • 1) Specialist in Renal Nutrition
      • 2) Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition
      • 3) Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition
      • 4) Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management
      • 5) Specialist in Oncology Nutrition
      • 6) Specialist in Sports Nutrition
      • 7) Advanced Practice in Clinical Nutrition or designation as a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
    • Certified Culinary Medicine Specialist
    • Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner, or;
    • Certified Master Trainer in Food Allergies.
