    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Provides assistance in all dietary functions, such as basic food preparation, set-up and clean-up of meals, in accordance with established policies and procedures. Performs all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards.


    Safety/Risk Management
    a. Follows policy and procedures for incident report.
    b. Follows confidentiality policies and procedures
    c. Complies with infection control guidelines.
    d. Knows MSDS book use and location.
    e. Complies with patient rights and regulations.
    f. Executes good body mechanics at all times.

    Coordination of Services
    a. Engages in professional, courteous interaction with peers and other hospital personnel..
    b. Prioritizes appropriately, utilizing good judgment and effective time management skills.
    c. Accepts delegation of tasks.

    Complex Aspects
    a. Assists in departmental or special projects as needed.
    b. Demonstrates knowledge of different diets - regular and modified.
    c. Assists in orientation of new staff.
    d. Participates in departmental Q.I. plan.

    Primary Aspects
    a. Demonstrates proficiency in assembling and delivery of food and beverage according to order or menu, checking for accuracy and correcting any mistakes found.
    b. Assists in daily or scheduled cleaning duties, utilizing clean as you go policy.
    c. Maintains food storage areas in a clean, safe, and properly arranged manner at all times.
    d. Sweeps and mops floors as directed.
    e. Carries out refuse and keeps work areas clean, dry, and free of hazardous equipment, supplies, etc.
    f. Performs ware washing duties, assuring that dishes, pots, glasses, and utensils are clean, sanitized and readily available for the next meal.
    g. Works with the Supervisor as necessary, implementing recommended changes in specialized diets as required, making only authorized substitutions.
    h. Demonstrates effective use of supplies and food, including, but not limited to:
    - Ensuring a quality product
    - Replacing inappropriate food/supplies
    - Using correct rotation of food/supplies in storage (FIFO)
    - Complying with established HACCP
    f. Demonstrates safe food and equipment handling practices, including, but not limited to:
    - Cleaning and sanitizing per policies and procedures
    - Checking, recording, maintaining and correcting deficiencies in temperature of food and equipment per policies and procedures
    g. Works towards achieving a high rating on quarterly health inspection for department/area. (90% = 1, 91% - 95% = 2, 96% = 3.)

    Communication Management
    a. Consistently maintains excellent customer service and guest relations skills.
    b. Consistently utilizes active listening skills.
    c. Consistently exhibits proper telephone management techniques.

    a. Facilitates operation of equipment.
    b. Cleans and sanitizes all equipment according to standard procedure.
    c. Facilitates maintenance of equipment.

    Certifications: Serve Safe Food Handlers or Serve Safe Manager Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire or transfer and maintained.
    Preferred Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
    Preferred Experience: Experience in food services preferred.
