Responsible for administration and direct application of all audiology treatment as prescribed by physician and, in addition, provides audiological evaluation of patients, independent of the physician, making appropriate medical referrals when case history or audiological results support such referrals. Performs complete audiometric evaluation, including air, bone and speech testing (live voice and taped) on adult to pediatric population (evaluation of children includes play audiometry, conditioned orientation response audiometry, visual reinforcement audiometry as well as behavioral audiometry); immittance testing to assist in determinination of site of lesion. Evaluations also include workers' compensation assessments and calculation of degree of disability present, if determined, and industrial hearing screening testing. Performs adult and pediatric ABRs, including diagnostic ABRs, Maximum Length Sequence (MLS) testing and tone burst ABRs. Provides Health Department and referring physicians with written follow-up reports on infants who have been referred for failing hearing screenings at birth in addition to other direct referrals. Recommends, selects and fits hearing aids and assistive listening devices (pocketalkers, auditory trainers, neckloops, personal FMs and infared systems); provides patients with Telecommunications Access Program (TAP) applications when appropriate. Performs duties in accordance with the audiology scope of practice.
