Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Licensure: Current license in State of Oklahoma.
Experience: One-year clinical experience required.
Certifications: ACLS & CPR required.
Other: Knowledge in the use of technological equipment helpful.
Preferred Education: BSN preferred.
Preferred Experience: One-year of G.I. lab experience
The hours of the RN-Flex position are determined based on the needs of the department.

Plans and assists in the provision of nursing care to Inpatients and Outpatients in the area of GI Lab, IV therapy, pain management diagnostics and other therapeutic procedures.
1.1 Plans and prepares for the care of the patient according to diagnosis, procedure, needs of the patient, and the physician's preferences prior to scheduled procedure time.
1.2 Assesses pre-procedure condition of the patient upon arrival to identify any problems or needs and changes plan accordingly and documents everything in patient's record.
1.3 Performs and assists physician with procedures providing knowledge and special skills according to standards and established policies and procedures, as scheduled.
1.4 Assists and positions patient according to procedure respecting the privacy and dignity of the patient at all times.
1.5 Performs pre and post-op teaching according to patient's needs and condition on arrival and prior to dismissal of patient.
1.6 Meets family concerns by notifying them of delays and changes, evidenced by documentation in nursing record.
1.7 Administers medications and performs procedures as ordered by physician with accuracy and care.
1.8 Starts I.V.'s following established procedure and as ordered by physician.
1.9 Performs diagnosting testing independantly as ordered by physician.
1.10 Initiates IV therapy in timely fashion.
1.11 Makes pre and post-op calls to patients to assess condition and for continuity of care the day before and the day after procedure.
Evaluates effectiveness of care rendered for quality and improvement.
2.1 Assesses and documents the patients response to nursing intervention following procedures.
2.2 Documents and verbally communicates patient assessment to appropriate personnel upon transfer to another area according to established Nursing Standards.
2.3 Uses supplies and equipment in an economical manner, using physician preference cards and nursing judgment, without sacrificing the care of the patient according to Mercy core values.
2.4 Documents patient charges after each procedure accurately 100% of time.
2.5 Available for Call, as assigned by manager or designee, to meet the demands and needs of the patients and hospital.
2.6 Checks and documents controlled drugs each time used and reports any discrepancies to charge nurse daily.
Assists in the care of equipment and supplies to insure availability when needed.
3.1 Cleans the room and carefully removes equipment according to infection prevention procedures to insure safety after procedure is completed.
3.2 Assists in, and knows procedures for cleaning and storing endoscopes, and sterilizing instruments and equipment according to procedure to insure availability and safety.
3.3 Assists with inventory as assigned and daily by reporting and documenting use of supplies and malfunctioning equipment to insure availability when needed.
Maintains and increases standards of performance and education and aids in self and staff development to insure excellence.
4.1 Assists with orientation of new employees by sharing her/ his knowledge and talents and according to orientation policy.
4.2 Attends department staff meetings 80% of time and is responsible for reading minutes if unable to attend.
4.3 Attends mandatory department meetings 100% of the time.
4.4 Attends and documents 12 hrs. of continued educationrelated to his/her work for self development (besides the mandatory testing required by regulatory bodies) every year prior to Performance appraisal review.
4.5 Proof of current certification in CPR and ACLS.
4.6 Participates in Process Improvement activities like data collection and in-services.
4.7 Participates in hospital committee, special projects, or services such as precepting students as requested.
Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups to include adolescent, adult and geriatric.
5.1 Demonstrates knowledge of the changes associated with aging.
5.2 Demonstrates ability to provide care based upon physical, psycho/ social, cultural, safety and other age related factors.
5.3 Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs.
Demonstrates effective and accurate verbal, written and electronic communication.
6.1 Creates a positive climate for communications.
6.2 Takes ownership in resolving conflicts appropiately in the the work place.
6.3 Maintains the confidentiality of patient, staff, and hospital information from written, verbal, electronic sources.
6.4 Communication is timely, accurate, concise, complete, and appropriate.
6.5 Utilizes constructive problem solving techniques to promote change and deal with issues. Follows established channels for addressing issues, concerns and problems.
6.6 Documentation of the Nursing Process is completed according to organizational policies and procedures. 6.7 Maintains relevant knowledge of hospital forms, and completes in a timely, accurate and complete manner. (i.e. Quality Improvement reports, Patient Care Documentation forms, Employee/Patient Incident reports, Medmarx).
Demonstrates professional conduct and development.
7.1 Uses current knowledge and evidenced based research to improve clinical practice or patient care.
7.2 Participates in unit development and decision making through such activities as attending staff meetings, serving on a committee or task force and/or special project work.
7.3 The Nurse will be responsible for individual professional growth and development, demonstrating that growth by: (1) ability to care for more complex patients and daily assignments; (2) ability to independently research complex patient care issues and consistently act as a resource person for colleagues; and (3) effectively serve as role models, and/or preceptors.
7.4 The professional nurse participates in peer review through review of documents on a monthly basis according to policy and procedures.
7.5 Performs other duties as assigned.
7.6 Participates in annual peer review process for self and others when requested. Develops improvement plans when applicable.
