The Pharmacy Technician I, under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and according to the established procedures, assists with the filling and delivery of medication orders, I.V. preparation, prepacking, filling medication cabinets, labeling and dispensing drug orders. Maintains patient profiles, and when appropriate, enters charges into the computer system. Performs other related duties as required. Reports to the Pharmacy Supervisor, Operations Manager, and Director of Pharmacy. Pharmacy Techs working in OR will report to the Director/Manager of the Pharmacy.
1 Accurately fills physician orders according to the prescription. Always places orders so pharmacist can review prior to sending to the floor. Assists the nurses with appropriate medication-related questions. Accurately fills
2 medication cabinets and other orders needed to replenish floor stock. Accurately and efficiently runs and manages different technologies (Automated Dispensing Cabinets)
related to the pharmacy department. Assists in all jobs when requested due to fluctuations in patient census, short staffing or regular assignment of duties, such as answering the phone and triaging workflow. Delivers and returns medication orders to
patient floors as assigned. Note: Pharmacy Techs that flow into the OR may have additional duties as assigned in that department.
3 Keeps work areas orderly and sanitary. Demonstrates an ability to prioritize workload and to adjust personal schedule to complete work. Responsible to others in a helpful manner in times of increased work load. Coordinates work to achieve maximum
productivity and efficiency.
4 Demonstrates a complete understanding of all policies and procedures and responsibilities of a pharmacy technician. Regularly consults with pharmacists in matters of uncertainty. Observes hospital dress code and policies regarding ID badges.
At assigned work station and ready to work when scheduled.
5 Participates in the PI process and identifies opportunities to improve patient care delivery, monitoring and implementing changes. Enhances the learning opportunities to other staff and effectively contributes to the orientation of co-workers and students, including automation training for pharmacy co-workers.
Performs duties pertaining to the handling and disposition of site-generated hazardous waste as part of daily job activities.
Comply with all Federal, State, and Local authorities having jurisdiction.

Education: High School Diploma, GED or Higher Education
Licensure: Missouri Board of Pharmacy Technician License
Certification/Registration: National Pharmacy Technician Certification within 1 year of hire
or transferring into role.

Education: Secondary and some post-secondary.
One year or more pharmacy tech experience. Hospital pharmacy
tech experience is a plus.
