    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Responsible and accountable for assisting with the nursing care of patients in the operating
    room by performing routine and delegated duties according to the standards of practice and
    policies and procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse. Serves as scrub nurse
    and second circulator with primary circulator as a Registered Nurse. Responsible for stocking,
    replenishing, preparing and/or selecting supplies and equipment for use or standby during
    surgical procedures. Assists with housekeeping functions to maintain cleanliness in the
    operating room in order to ensure a safe patient environment. Maintains competent scrub
    technology skill level to ensure provision of safe quality patient care. The Scrub Technologist
    follows the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of St. Edward Mercy
    Medical Center. Maintains competent peri-operative skill level to ensure provision of safe
    quality patient care. The Scrub Tech assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives,
    policies, and procedures of St. Edward Mercy Medical Center are followed. Is sensitive to the
    needs of patients, families and fellow co-workers; plans and provides professional care for
    patients in accordance with age specific needs, plans and provides professional care for
    patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles,
    beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); plans and provides care for patients by assuring
    appropriate and effective pain management; assess, report, and assist any patients that present
    with evidence of abuse and/or neglect; and supports the mission of SEMMC. Co-workers are
    expected to abide by St. Edward Mercy Medical Center safety and infection control policies to
    maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers. Performs duties and responsibilities in
    a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

    Qualifications:

    Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:

    • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent and a Graduate of a surgical technology program
       
    • Experience: Proficient in Level I, II, and II requirements as defined per policy
       
    • Certification/Registration:CPR
       
    • Other skills & knowledge: (skills, knowledge, abilities) Proficient in Level I, II, and II requirements as defined per
      policy. Completed documentation verifying expertise in all three specialty areas as defined per policy. Knowledge of room setup, instruments and equipment needs (including setting up the sterile field and troubleshooting the equipment) specific to each specialty area achieved. Knowledge of mixing and/or administration of all products.
       
    • Other skills & knowledge: (skills, knowledge, abilities) products (i.e. medications, hemostatic agents, etc.) specific to each specialty area achieved. Provide annual inservice specific to each specialty area achieved.
       
    • Qualifications Preferred: Clinical experience of at least one year in a hospital with OR experience
