    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    The Orthopedic Technician, while under the supervision of the physician/surgeon assists in rendering care and providing services to the orthopedic patient. The Orthopedic Technician is a specifically trained allied health individual in the field of orthopedic medicine. 




    Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:



    Education: High School Diploma or equivalent GED. 

    Licensure: None
    Experience: Minimum 2 years as orthopedic technician, unless certified as an OTC by the National Board of Certification of Orthopedic Technologists.  Previous physician office experience. 
    Certifications: None

    Other: 1. Eligible for staff privileges at hospitals where physician/surgeons work.  2. Knowledge of physiology, anatomy and medical terminology.  3. Competency in applying casts and splints and surgical technology.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    Education: Post-secondary certificate or associate's degree as orthopedic technician from a technology program

    Licensure: None
    Experience: 3+ years of Orthopedic experience including casting, bracing, splinting, suture removal, pin removal, dressing changes and wound care

    Certifications: certified as an OTC by the National Board of Certificat
