    Overview:


    Assist the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures operating room suite is Adequately prepared for procedure. Monitor par level of all surgical instruments and supplies daily. Cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments in conjunction with Central Reprocessing. Participates in department meetings and performance improvement activities as assigned.   Coordinates with CVOR team and Supervisor to meet departmental equipment and supply and organization needs.

    Responsibilities and Qualifications

     

    1. Interacts professionally and treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.   Maintains professionalism and conducts self according to Mercy Service Standards.
    2. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical errors.
    3. Establish and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with coworkers for the benefit of the patient.
    4. Performs duties as assigned. Seeks out opportunities to assist coworkers in CVOR department maintenance.
    5. Maintains sterile technique. Always maintains an orderly instrument table for the purpose of efficiency. Follows department standard set-up and practices.
    6. Demonstrates a willingness to work in collaboration and values the input and skills of all patient care team members. Accepts direction from peers, team members and manager in a positive, cooperative manner.
    7. Demonstrates a willingness to perform duties assigned; both primary and secondary, either inside or outside the CVOR as appropriate.
    8. Utilizes and conserves resources. Uses equipment and resources wisely. Maintains stock and par levels in the CVOR, as appropriate.
    9. Anticipates needs of the surgeon during operative phase. Maintains surgeons preference cards/ bible.
    10. Is responsible for care of instruments/equipment; including cleaning and processing of instruments. Collaborates with Central Supply.
    11. Prepares room in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment for each individual procedure.
    12. Demonstrates care and competence in care of specimens and accurately handles specimens at all times.
    13. Demonstrates competence in performing counts under direction of circulating nurse. Follows established policy and procedure for counts. Effectively communicates to the circulator and surgeon.
    14. Is able to effectively perform all duties as a surgical technologist and has a basic understanding of circulating, anesthesia and perfusion roles.
    15. Takes call as required (see CVOR Staffing Policy). Takes accountability for being accessible while on call. Responds to callbacks by calling the operator when paged and arriving in department ready to work in a timely manner. Effectively manages duties as a team leader, as necessary.

    Minimum Required Qualifications

    Education:

    Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

    Graduate of Surgical technology program and Surgical Technology Certification.

    Certification/Registration:

    Current BLS Certification

    Other Skills and Knowledge:

    Basic computer knowledge

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience:

    Minimum 1 year experience.
