    Responsibilities and Qualifications



    The Supervisor works with the staff, under the leadership of the manager, to ascertain care given to patients within the hospital is in accordance with physician's orders and in conformity with The Joint Commission and Medicare standards. This supervisor position is responsible for the appropriate utilization of resources to optimize patient care through delegating and coordination of care in the Cath Lab. This position integrates patient care services within the hospital's primary functions. Directly supervises professional, technical and clerical staff and the services and programs provided in the patient care area. They promote a positive working environment and motivates staff to perform to the best of their abilities.




    Organize the department and areas of responsibility and establish the responsibility and accountability for patient care and personnel.

    1.1 Provides adequate staffing by effectively utilizing staff resource to achieve maximum productivity and quality patient care.
    1.2 Ensures that all exams are performed on a timely basis while maintaining all quality standards.
    1.3 Coordinates the effective utilization of available equipment resources by appropriate scheduling and planning.
    1.4 Ensures that all equipment operates according to safety standards and that all technologists are fully competent in the proper operations of all equipment.
    1.5 Regularly checks the quality of exams performed by staff technologists to ensure that all appropriate standards are being met.
    1.6 Regularly ensures that complete satisfaction is being received by patients, physicians, and all other identified customers.

    Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based upon the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and other related criteria appropriate to adults.
    2.1 Demonstrates knowledge of the changes associated with aging.
    2.2 Demonstrate ability to provide care based upon physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and other age related factors.
    2.3 Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient needs.

    Communicates effectively.
    3.1 Ensures that all requisitions are accurate and contain appropriate clinical data and that all appropriate EPIC entries are made upon exam completion.
    3.2 Ensures that all exams are accurate and properly updated prior to submission for interpretation.
    3.3 Demonstrates all records and proper documentation appropriate for regulatory compliance.
    3.4 Maintains divisional radiation monitoring badges according to policy.

    Manages financial resources.
    4.3 Regularly reviews co-worker clocking transactions making appropriate corrections, and submits final pay report on a timely basis.

    Manages utilization of equipment and supplies.
    5.1 Sets an example of quality patient care by exercising the highest standards at all times.
    5.2 Practices radiation safety measures according to policy and ensures compliance throughout the division.

    Manages the environment.
    6.1 Utilizes the Safe system to record events, provides investigation and indicated follow-up.
    6.2 Immediately notifies leader and Quality Director of unanticipated outcomes within the department to include, but not limited to: Sentinel events, Near misses, and potential risk-related issues.
    6.3 Implements and sustains risk-reduction strategies as identified in RCA's.
    6.4 Ensures co-workers practice within their defined scope of practice.
    6.5 Is a visible patient safety champion, engages co-workers in safety activities.

    Manages human resources and promotes personal and staff development
    8.1 Along with the manager, completes annual performance reviews and submits for approval on or before effective date.
    8.2 Counsels employees verbally and or in writing when appropriate according to hospital policies.
    8.3 Coordinates professional continuing education for nurses and technologists and seeks effective means of achieving minimum requirements.
    8.4 Ensures that all co-workers attend appropriate hospital inservices such as CPR, infection control, and safety.
    8.5 Completes departmental orientation on all new co-workers within the first month of employment.

    Demonstrates effective unit management.
    9.1 Works with the Manager in the establishment of capital and operations budgets.
    9.2 Regularly monitors departmental performance and makes recommendations for improvement and/or corrections to the Manager.
    9.3 Participates in the development of policies and procedures.
    9.4 Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities by developing and monitoring departmental studies and by actively working on teams throughout the hospital.
    9.5 Actively enhances professional growth by attending hospital sponsored management functions as well as professional meetings.

    Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:


    Education: High School Diploma
    Licensure: National registration as a Radiology Technician, or State licensure as an RN
    Experience: minimum one year Supervisory experience
    Certifications: BLS Required.
     Preferred Education:  BS Degree
