The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant works under the supervision of the Manager of Therapy Services, and assists the Occupational Therapist with rehabilitative activities for
patients who may have developmental, physical and emotional impairments. Prepares equipment for treatment and may perform clerical duties for the department. Performs duties
and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Expert Assistance: Uses the appropriate policy, protocols, standards of practice within the scope of practice. Evaluates the appropriate documents, therapies, medications and patient responses to interventions. Interprets changes in
patient condition and monitoring data, including vital signs, lab, diagnostic tests and monitor readings and reporting as needed. Recognizes limitations and seeks additional assistance if necessary.
Manage The Plan Of Care: Assists with the development of the Plan of Care. Reports pertinent information to staff and physicians and collaborates with the healthcare team
to plan/provide patient care as evidenced by documentation.
Expert Care: Obtains, verifies and implements physician orders and nursing interventions within the scope of practice. Documents the patient's response to
procedures, therapies, medications and interventions. Demonstrates or develops proficiency in performing and/or assisting in procedures and therapies according to
policy and procedures.
Documentation: Ensures that the patient record reflects the plan of care, patient care delivered and the status during his or her care and discharge. Ensures that the
information is legible, concise, accurate, objective and timely, while meeting hospital standards.
Leadership: Directs and coordinates assignments and care given by team members based on staff competencies, experience and scope of responsibility. Participates in
the PI process and identifies opportunities to improve patient care delivery, including collecting data, monitoring and implementing changes. Enhances the learning
opportunities to other staff and effectively contributes to the orientation of team members and students.
Patient Education: Assesses and utilizes methods based on the patient and significant other's knowledge base, communication skills, developmental age, ability and readiness to learn.

Education: Post-secondary (undergraduate). Graduate of an accredited program for Occupational Therapist Assistant.
Licensure: Must have valid Missouri Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant license
Experience: Less than one year.
Certification/Registration: COTA Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant--MO. BLS
Basic Life Support Within 3 Months Of Hire.
