    The HIS Associate supports the Health Information Services Department (HIS) with maintaining and protecting the medical record as a legal document for the health system. Duties may include preparing documents for scanning, scanning documents, indexing documents, analyzing records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, answering the phone, printing and faxing documents and any other duty assigned to support the department. Ability to meet productivity and quality expectations is required. The HIS Associate will perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values and Mercy Service Standards.



    Responsibilities and Qualifications


    Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:


    Education: High school diploma or GED.

    Experience: Ability to type 160 numbers per minute using keyboard 10-key with 98% accuracy. Ability to type 35 words per minute. Ability to use a computer mouse. Ability to use keyboard shortcuts when possible in lieu of the computer mouse. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, willingness to learn multiple tasks and ability to maintain positive presence and live the Mercy Values and Service Standards.

    Preferred Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in an acute care medical record department Minimum of 1 year experience in a customer-service role or industry.

    Preferred Certifications: RHIT
    Preferred Other: Experience with scanning documents is preferred.


    Responsibilities include:

    • Obtaining medical records and documentation from the hospital units as well as document preparation for scanning, document indexing and record analysis.
    • Answering phones and assisting callers.
    • Printing and faxing documents as requested per departmental procedure.
    • Assisting physicians with record completion issues.
    • Complete continuation of care releases and other clerical duties and/or other duties as assigned by HIS management.
