    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Under the direction of the Licensed Nurse, performs tasks and activities related to patient care to an assigned group of patients. Provide care for patients in accordance with age specific needs; provide care in accordance with any identifiable cultural diversity needs (such religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities and cultures); provide care for patients by assuring effective pain interventions as allowed by their work certification; report and assist any patient that prevents with evidence of abuse and/or neglect; and supports the mission of Mercy Hospital Fort Smith. Coworkers are expected to abide by MHFTS safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and coworkers.

    • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Current Nursing student that has completed coursework in Fundamentals of Nursing and /or demonstrates competency in job description responsibilities . Applicant must provide documentation from school that coursework has been completed. Current nursing students with an active CNA license will meet the requirements for this position.
      Licensure: None required
      Experience: Entry level.
      Certifications: CPR
      Other: Regular attendance on the job during the required hours, including being on time for the start of required shifts is essential. The nurse extern must work at least 16 hours per month to maintain employment. Enrollment in nursing school is mandatory to maintain employment as a nurse extern.
