    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Overview

    The Trauma Education and Outreach Nurse assumes responsibility for all activities related to assessment, coordination, planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational and competency programs to patient care staff in department(s)/unit(s) of responsibility. Collaborates with Talent Development and Optimization and other content experts/educators to provide educational opportunities and improve staff competence. This position is a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for scientific inquiry, advocate for the trauma specialty, and is a partner for practice transitions. This position takes a leadership role in the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of trauma educational programs/projects for staff, patients, and the community (both professional and public) across the continuum of trauma care, and will facilitate access to trauma hospital resources such as educational activities. Planning and coordinating educational courses and conferences is a key aspect of this position; this will include public speaking and instructing. Communication with visitors, physicians, and other employees should demonstrate a caring, friendly, personal and professional approach. Responds to requests within authorized scope of knowledge and skills. Assures that the policies and procedures for the department and Hospital are implemented. Analyzes departmental and trauma registry data to evaluate trends and accuracy, and prepares meaningful reports using spreadsheets or other data.

     

    The Trauma Education and Outreach Nurse is also responsible for the development and growth
    of Mercy's market position within the Ministry, with a specific focus on trauma patient care. This position helps Mercy remain competitive within the market by maintaining extensive knowledge of current market conditions, developing long-term strategic goals, building key relationships, and identifying, assessing and developing new opportunities. This position ensures that the regional referral agencies understand the current capabilities and of trauma care at Mercy, and collaborate with these agencies to enhance relationships and patient care. Performs all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

     

    Qualifications:

      Qualifications

      Education: Bachelor's degree.

      Licensure: Current State of Missouri RN license.

      Experience: 3 years of care delivery in acute care environments like emergency/critical care. Demonstrated education experience.

      Certification/Registration: Must have or be progressing toward certification in a specialty of nursing related to Trauma care (TCRN, CPEN, CEN, CCRN, CFRN). The expectation is to achieve certification within 1 year of accepting position. TNCC, ENPC, PALS, BLS, ACLS and ABLS certifications, and ATLS auditing, all within 6 months from hire. TNCC Instructor within 1 year from hire. Rural Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC) Instructor and Coordinator within 1 year from hire. ABLS instructor and ATLS Course Coordinator within 2 years from hire.
