Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the monitoring of rhythms of the patient to achieve the patient’s highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient. Assists in unit operational support tasks or duties.
a. Complies with infection control guidelines.
b. Adheres to hospital wide safety regulations.
c. Performs equipment safety checks and reports faulty equipment/quality reports.
d. Follows hospital policy for completion of incident reports/quality reports.
e. Follows confidentiality policy/procedure.
f. Complies with patient rights/regulations.
Coordination of Services:
a. Assists in the orientation of new/float personnel.
b. Maintains work area: Procedures necessary forms/supplies as needed for unit; Maintains accurate census information.
c. Coordinates workflow by communicating to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
d. Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good use of time.
a. Obtains and reads strips accurately.
b. Performs daily routines: running of the strips, reading of the strips and monitoring of all patients.
c. Gathers and records patient data.
d. Performs technical skills related to unit requirements: keeps updated on monitoring system.
e. Observes changes or unusual occurrences in patient condition and reports them immediately to the appropriate personnel.
f. Nurses are notified of alarms in a timely manner.
g. Able to keep track of admissions, discharges, transfers and patients on the floor.
h. Applies knowledge of cost effectiveness without jeopardizing patient outcome.
i. Assures all patient charges/credits are entered appropriately.
j. Demonstrates flexibility regarding workload, assignments and change.
a. Accepts delegation of tasks.
b. Communicates with other members of the HCT to optimize the care of the patient.
a. Performs unit specific computer functions.
b. Performs clerical duties as needed (i.e., answers phones, monitors lights).

Education: High school diploma, G.E.D. and/or current co-worker of Mercy. Successful completion of course for Monitor Tech
