The Instrument Technician II requires in addition to basic skills of Technician I, advanced training, certification, and on-going education to produce safe, quality product and service. The role requires knowledge and ability to follow directions in equipment operation and instrument assembly. Patient Safety and Customer Satisfaction are directly impacted by this position, which has multiple regulatory guidelines and oversight, both internal and external. Will be expected to be proficient in various aspects of the department, performing according to Standard Work Documents. Instrument Tech II must demonstrate skills in proper handling, assembly, inspection, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and equipment. Must be proficient in processing trays and equipment in a minimum of three or more service categories. Position is preparatory for Instrument Tech III position. Role requires responsible individuals who demonstrate and reflect Mercy Signature Service, Values, and Accounting of Stewardship.

Education: High School degree or GED equivalent required
Other: Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE). Must interact with staff and co-workers across a diverse range of disciplines. Must be able to follow directions. Must be able to operate equipment. The physical demands described here are the representative of the minimums that must be met by an employee to perform all essential functions of the job. Most physical demands are below, plus: Minimal: high/mid/low level lift of < 29 lbs
Preferred Education: further education/work history preferred
Preferred Experience: Computer skills as described in Job Responsibilities
Preferred Certifications: Instrument Tech certification from IAHCSMM or CBSPD preferred and must be completed within one year of employment.
