    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    The vStroke position works with a multidisciplinary team to support evidence-based practice with the use of established stroke protocols via the telemedicine platform. Ensures care for the stroke patient throughout the continuum, by providing quality, best practices support and data collection for stroke patients across multiple hospitals. Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information.  Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent our Mission, Values and Mercy Service Standards.

     

    • Responds to electronic stroke alerts and assists bedside with monitoring door to needle time.
    • Works collaboratively with the bedside team to facilitate best practices and stroke
      care delivery via the telemedicine platform.
    • Collaborates with the telestroke leadership team to ensure the delivery of Joint Commission Disease-Specific Care related to stroke.
    • Become familiar with state regulations related to stroke care.
    • Consistently reviews performance measures and outcomes for stroke improvement opportunities.
    • Keeps leadership abreast of any issues as they occur
    • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations; seeks opportunities to develop an enriched understanding of neurology/pathophysiology related to stroke Demonstrates an understanding of trends and current research.
    • Monitors clinical documentation to ensure effective stroke quality monitoring and documentation based on core measures.
    • Abstract and analyze stroke data in pursuit of opportunities to improve stroke care.
    • Follows policy/ procedure for event reporting
    • Uses time efficiently
    • Listens and seeks clarification.
    • Coaches and mentors bedside staff on telestroke procedures, guidelines, NIHSS
      and neuro assessment.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications:

     

    Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:

     

    •  Education: Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program. Associate's Degree in Nursing.
    •  Experience: 2 years recent experience in Direct patient care experience of Neurology patients in an acute care setting, Adult Med/Surg, or Emergency Department experience required.
    •  Licensure: Missouri State Licensure, current RN Temporary Permit/RN. Multi-state licensure required within 6 months of hire. 
    • Certifications: BLS, NIHSS certification upon one month of hire, and Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) within 3 year of hire required.
