Responsible for decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging and sterilization of surgical instruments in accordance to the guidelines set forth by the AAMI Standards.
a. Follows standard precautions
b. Properly identifies and disposes of sharps, completes event report when safety exposure is encountered
c. Adheres to hospital wide safety regulations.
d. Follows confidentiality policy/procedure.
e. Complies with patient rights/regulations.
f. Follows Code of Conduct
Coordination of Services:
a. Follows processes as outlined in Standard Work Documents
b. Communicates with customers in a manner that instills confidence.
c. Demonstrates teamwork across multi-disciplinary, diverse functions.
d. Prioritizes as directed to assure continuity of services.
a. Shares knowledge with co-workers
b. Follows policies and procedures
c. Trouble shoots instrument problems
d. Demonstrates flexibility in workload assignments.
e. Plans instrument needs for the next shift based on case schedule. Assures that instruments needed are available.
f. Monitors staffing and assigns tasks that make efficient use of time and departmental needs.
g. Assures schedules are reviewed and clocking/attendance policies are adhered to.
h. Serves as a clinical role model.
i. Keeps Leadership informed of potential disconnects in process flow.
j. Utilizes equipment and resources properly and efficiently.
Growth and Development
a. Takes active role in skills and knowledge
b. Seeks growing participation in team activities by serving on committees, contributing ideas, and sharing growth opportunities.
c. Pursues maximum competencies in skill matrix by at least 2 levels in specialty each year.
Staff is expected to observe and report any process disconnects or potential disconnects as well as utilize communication tools.
a. Acts as a role model for communication: Assures thorough and clear communication; Utilizes a variety of mediums (verbal, written, presentations, bulletin board, newsletter, etc.) to appeal to varying learning needs; Assures feedback about an individual’s performance is timely, factual and communicated in a dignified manner; Assures appropriate confidentiality and discretion in communications; Demonstrates verbal and non-verbal communication; Uses creativity as a tool for educating staff
b. Checks email daily for updates to department processes and expecations.
c. Notifies proper personnel when instrument room supplies are needed.
