    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Interact with Mercy Edmond I-35 Emergency Department leadership, Pharmacist in Charge, and Hospital Pharmacy to assure the integration of services with specific responsibility for management of routine medications and controlled substances utilized in the emergency department.
    1.1 Order medications from appropriate vendors
    1.2 Apply the Omnicell system to the management of all medications
    1.3 Anticipate inventory levels of various drugs based on emergency department volumes
    1.4 Update electronic formulary per instructions from P&T committee
    Compliance with Regulatory and Governing bodies
    2.1 Manages DEA ordering and recording
    2.2 Returns DEA control substances to DEA through returns company for proper disposition
    2.3 Meticulously inventories all controlled substances and reports discrepancies to leadership immediately
    2.4 Monitors for medication expiration
    2.5 Processes expired narcotics according to policy and regulations
    2.6 Utilizes Federal, State and OSHA rules and regulations to provide a safe work environment
    Management of Omnicell’s within I-35 Emergency Department
    3.1 Review and maintain program needs of the Omnicell’s located in I-35 Emergency Department
    3.2 Serve as a liaison with the service vendor for the operation and maintenance of new interfaces with Omnicell
    3.3 Create and send to leadership, required reports regarding front line use of Omnicell
    3.4 Restock medications as needed in a timely fashion to gain full benefit of auto reordering process
    3.5 Provide in-service as needed on pertinent Omnicell issues

    Quality and safety processes and reporting
    4.1 Report all interventions, requests for information, ADR's and Medication errors to the Pharmacist in Charge and I-35 Emergency Department Manager
    4.2 Assist with evaluation of current drug room practice and care delivery to identify opportunities to improve quality and efficiency of care
    4.3 Maintain current bar codes on all medications for patient safety, billing and inventory consistent with EPIC workflows and regulations
    4.4 Audit charging of all medications issued from automated dispensing cabinets
    4.5 Record and maintain all quality and performance improvement data
    Communicates effectively
    51 Provides concise effective and accurate verbal and written communication regarding workflow processes and operations
    5.2 Meets regularly with leadership (pharmacist in charge, emergency department manager, and medical director) to assure continuity of care and pending changes as it relates to medication safety

    Documentation review
    6.1 Resolves discrepancies in conjunction with emergency room co-workers and leadership
    6.2 Creates and runs reports for leadership for quality and reporting purposes
    6.3 Reviews previous days patient logs for routine errors
    6.4 Troubleshoot EPIC errors as they occur within the documentation of medication administration in conjunction with staff and leadership
    Functions as a Licensed Practical Nurse
    7.1 Interacts with patients as needed under the direction of the Registered Nurse
    7.2 Wears proper PPE when appropriate
    7.3 Utilizes universal precautions consistently
    7.4 Performs appropriate nursing duties as needed under the direction of the Registered Nurse

    Education: Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program
    Licensure: Current Oklahoma Licensed Practical Nurse License
    Experience: 2 years acute care experience
    Other: Good working knowledge of computer systems and EMR

    Preferred Other: Prefer EPIC experience
